Two explosions near the palastine hotel in Baghdad watching pictures on BBC news 24 they say they were two mortar rounds. the explosions were rather large. If any of you didn't know th epalastine hotel is where alot of foreign media stay.

Saw the video. Definitely SVBIEDs. At least two. Looked like one was a truck that rammed through a blast wall or something (maybe that gap in the wall was already there--EDIT I think this is the case) and detonated shortly after. This all occured at Firdos Square (where Saddam's statue was pulled down). CNN says '3 car bombs'.

Thats what i thought aslo when i saw the explsion i was suspecting somthing other than a mortar because after the second explosion there was alot of metal debri. Also there are reports of gunfire now around the area and the jorunalists are taking refuge in the lobby of the hotel

I'm expecting a Spanish judge to issue some arrest warrants for the terrorists who set off the explosion any time now...

Was being sarcastic:) , but seems like everything I see on the news from any news service is bad. When I was there I saw good tings that never made to the nightly news, schools being built, some electrical grids coming on line, food wasn't scarce, but yet the media already assumes the war is lost.

I saw that one also, the last explosion was the best:)

Argyll

did you also see these same electrical grids grind to a halt because the Iraqi's don't have a clue?.......food isn't scarce but petrol and deisel are,and when the power goes off for hours on end the Iraqi's have no fuel for their generators...!.....yes things are getting built, but those doing the building are getting killed.....for every bit of positive news, there's as much negative news, and what's more of a seller?

I don't get this Toad and Ed are you making light of a terrorist attack on a hotel, where more than 20 people have been killed?

ed316

not making fun of any situation, my comment was not related to the incident

If you watch what all the media is saying, it's seems the sky is falling

Ed can we try and keep it on topic 'cause otherwise sticky situtations arise where it seems you are making light of events such as this.
Argylle when you say serious **** is going on are you refering to this or are there more asofyet un-reported in foreign media things going on. obviously i'd understand if you can't/ don't want to answer about it right now but i like to keep up to date on the news.

did anyone claim responsibility

Argyll
10-24-2005, 04:05 PM
There's lots going on unreported.......the hit on the Palestine whilst spectacular, was no surprise, there has been a threat against both hotels for months, some even claimed they pull of a spectacular.......the insurgents/terrorists have ultimately achived their aim......maximum publicity,it lets the rest of the world know they can and will strike alsmost at will at a place of their chosing!!......Zarqawis group will claim responsibility in the next few hours..........and in a few more days there will be a flurry of SVBIED's over the country

Looks like the first SVBIED blew a hole in the blast wall; second SVBIED was apparently driven back by gunfire (or so it's claimed)--exploded away from the breach; third was the cement mixer which drove through the breach and detonated.
