Ok, I see that some of you guys are rifling at my sig. I don't know who started it, and I don't care.
No, it's not plagiarized. I didn't read it somewhere and forget to credit the source. If you think I'm wrong, then prove me wrong. You can speculate all you want, but I know I'm right, and I know I didn't cheat someone out of their quote. There are a lot of sigs on here that I severely disagree with, but I don't make a fuss about.
Let me make a few things clear (some of these I've already made clear before)
1.I AM NOT IN THE MILITARY. NEVER HAVE BEEN.
2.I AM 16 YEARS OLD. I HAVE NEVER DENIED THIS.
3.I HAVE NEVER CLAIMED TO BE AN OPERATOR, OR ANYTHING THAT I'M NOT.
4. THE QUOTE IN MY SIG WAS NOT SAID BY ME, NOR BY A REAL-LIFE OPERATOR.
As some of you may know, I'm in the process of writing a book in my spare time. I've spent a lot of time working on it. I've spent even more time researching for it. I've talked to a lot of different people about what I'm writing about. I've talked to as many former/current operators (Navy SEALs, Rangers, Army SF, CCT, PJ, Police SWAT) as I can, asking about their life, and the mindset of their position. Around where I live, information is scarce. It's not easy.
The book is about the life of an operator. And it deals with a more extreme, and troubling look at his life. The mindset of this operator is a little more out there than any of the operators I've talked to. I listened closely to the people I've interviewed, and I MAGNIFIED their mental/emotional experiences. It was this character who uttered that quote. His mental state is not normal at the time in the story that he says that.
If I've offended anyone, sorry. Let me say it again, I'm not an operator. I have never claimed to be.
You're one modest operator. :D
Well if you hadn't found out by now; the quote, and if it the rest of the book is of the same 'well-researched' quality, plain sucks...

As any real 'Operator' will tell you, anyone whose mental state is not 'normal' and is 'a little more out there' will be heading rapidly in the direction of the resident psyciatric nurse, to be releived of any pointy or other dangerous impliments in his (or her) posession.
@Haiw - harsh, but fair ;)

I have a modified version of your sig that may be a more believable option for you.
There are two words that a geekoid will never say.. ever: workout and date. I don’t do physical. Girls don’t dig me. This is reality. I am a geekoid all day, every day, day in, and day out. There is no hope for me, no breaks. I will never be otherwise. I will never cease to have thought and dreams of popularity, until I achieve complete virtual reality.
Virtual reality is not enough, I must have enough honor or notoriety in whatever videogame I exist in. My purpose in life is to download every cheat and hack available. I am a cheater. I must be the biggest, baddest, dude in the game. And in my world, acne spreads like a virus in the midst of my face. They will laugh their asses off at the very mention of my name. My presence is laughable at the least. I will show them in the game! I will dominate. And I will win. I will win or I will reboot. There is no third option.. except maybe to get a Gregg’s Reference Manual and learn to use proper grammer.
Just a little razzing there pup. It is after all the internet so don't take everyone so serious. This is a military forum and posers are sort of an annoyance. But, credibility or service is not a requirement here.

Haiw, that was a little over the top. He's only 16, so give him a little leeway. There are worse things to be doing than trying to write a book at that age. Hell, he could probably give grammar lessons to a few 19 year olds around here that come to mind.

jack isn't 19, but god damn, he can barely speak english. :P

But the problem is that these kinds of 'wannabee books' are a major source of misinformation about these subjects... Plus you're being naïve if your thinking that you as a 16-year-old with basically no real (first-hand) knowledge about the subject can write a book that does honour to the people you're writing about.

I understand the criticism, but if he's just trying to write a fictional book, meaning 'loosely based on real operators' then who cares if the character is slightly loopy?
Look at the crap Hollywood puts out. What about comics or graphic novels. They're all sexed up. I don't think he's trying to write a tech manual on how to be a badass. ;)

Look. The kid can write whatever he wants. It is open to criticism just like everything else. If he expects to have credibility, he is asking too much. If he is just writing on what interests him... good for him. Keep it up Eagle1-1.
Clancy writes awesome stuff with out having "been there." He had to grow his knowledge coming up. Without being an operator, he definately has a tactical mindset. This kid is no Clancy, but you gotta start somewhere.

Clancy is a good example. Would you rather read his work or fiction by Andy McNab or Chris Ryan?

Clancy rights the odd good book but he also writes some really dire stuff. I'm ashamed to say that McNab and Ryan's books are far easier books to read and therefore get my vote.

McNab's books are my favorites. They're just so gritty and believable.

Nothing wrong with a bit of fiction, i especially like the fact that new charcters keep getting introduced because the old ones get killed so quickly. Theres none of that poncy gettting emotionally attached to the characters you get in normal books.

Trigger, would I? ;)
Got to say I read one of his novels on a flight (to the US, strangely - seeing as it was set there). It wasn't that bad. What I have a problem with is the bollocks that he puts out as fact :D

I have read a couple of books from those guys and I can clearly say that Clancy is crap, he destroys interesting information with way too much "mom, stateflag and applepie" talk (not say there's anything wrong with those subjects in general)
I can hardly believe that some of his (Clancy) emotional smothering in his books, are much appriciated by the soldiers he sometimes portray, but maybe I'm just an ice-hearted Dane?

All right, well, I think I'm gonna throw in the towel for a bit. Call me a quitter, a poser, whatever. Thanks to those who somewhat supported me, and I apologize to those I offended. Maybe I'll come back after awhile and post some of the stuff I write, and then you all can make up your opinions as you wish.
Hood, great site, keep up the good work. As for me, I'm done posting for a long time. I'll check up on my PMs, I have AIM (bluescarlet11) and my email is 20998@smail.olathe.k12.ks.us
But don't expect to see me around here. I knew beforehand I had a lot to learn, but I guess it's more than I expected...
Till then,
