I've seen many photos of us soldiers that Trijicons mounted on the front of upper reciever (M16/M4), so why is that?
Isn't it far from the eyes? bigger eye relief? Even when the buttstock is closed it still be far...
I was always learned by instructors to mount it closer to the eyes (T1\T2).
Can someone explain me what i don't know?
Thanks

where do you see these pics? I own a TA01NSN, and I keep it really close to my eye. Those scopes have some really horrible eye relief, you wont get much of a sight picture putting the ACOG up front on the Rail of an M4..

Is it for MOUT purposes?
It's posible to mount it at the front with TA51 mount (almost the only one i've seen in use by us soldiers)
I use ARMS No19

Hell yeah 11th ACR!
Uh anyway, because some of us are gooseneckers, IE we crawl up the stock. Just more comfortable. It's not that far forward, plus they teach you to shoot with your nose against the charging handle.

i'm goosenecker too but with ceramic armor and vest with closed buttstock it's the exact distance when trijicon is on T1/T2... how is it posible when trijicon is mounted at the front?

I guess it's just personal preferance. I usually mount it halfway. Then again, never really used many scopes, mostly Aimpoints.
Must just be preferance buddy. That's all I can think of.

It's really personal preference. Whatever is more comfortable to the user.

I think he's just referring to it being mounted forward on the reciever, not forward on the handguard.

Those are used less frequently than the NSN model...you do need to get up close with the NSN or the ta31...Not so for the Ta11 series....I shoot with it that is why I know...

I've seen reflex and eotech sights mounted forward but never an ACOG or Aimpoint

That is because when the stock of the M4 is collapsed if the ACOG is mountet towards the rear you can hardly shoulder the weapon and use the optics. And for MOUT/FIBUA/CQB the guys use collapsed stocks alot. Hence the more forward mounted ACOG.
The TA31 has an eye relief of 4.2cm (if I remmeber correctly), so it really depends where you put your head when you shoot.
Unlike with red-dot sights, that has no eye relief (doesn't magnify...), so it doesn't matter where you put them.
