Religion has already taken over the whole f***ing world let alone this forum. REligion is a plague, it is the cause of wars, genocide, and arguments.
eg. Northern Ireland, Israel/Palestine, Bosnia

That is why I'm an Atheist.

Not much of a religion. I don't like the idea of having my actions controlled by a mythical father figure created to control us all. I think u know what I mean, Hell. Hell is used as a way of controling us, by fear.

Then there's that stuff in the papers with Michael Jackson pushing wine on kids coz he says "Jesus drank it so it must be good".

So if "mythical father" allows you tho think and act that way...You can say he isn't good dictator, esspecialy when compared to Stalin, Mao... :)

If that's what u believe mate, I've got no problem whatsoever.

I have no problem with people who believe in a God, but I don't like it when they use it as an excuse to start a war or anything that is in "God's name".

Yes. This is a problem, by this is ussualy demagogy of rurels and it covers other aims, ussualy it has nothing to do with religions itselfs. You could do similiar thing with race, nations, or even haircut, and you don't want to be transparent or cosmopolitan or even bold. People are atheist beacause they don't believe in God's egsistence not because of wars fought in the name of the good with often were most of the violent ones...
People are ready to fight for nothing..If war is for Oil, people should stop protest and became happy, because those war atleast have legitimate reason :)

I'm not a big fan of religions because

a)some people try and force them on you
b)some people tell you what you believe is wrong because they read something in a book written the odd thousand year or so ago of which most is at best unbelievable and full of contradictions
c)some people kill each other over religion
d)not a big fan of the idea that i am being forced to do something, for instance, unless you lead the life of a good Christian then you'll burn in hell for eternity. Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me

Well at least he got the dying part right.

If you think about it, god (assuming for the moment there is one) can't reveal himself to us. If we knew for a fact that there was a god (or gods) - eventually our civilization would degenerate into something close to ancient Egypt. We'd spend all our time making presents for the gods, creating elaborate mechanisms to prepare ourselves for the certain eventuality of death. There'd be nobody running the cash register down at the Piggly Wiggly - they'd be out pulling stones up the ramp on the new "Please Don't Smite Las Vegas" pyramid construction site.

Then again, if we knew for a fact that there wasn't a god, or an afterlife, our civilization would degenerate into anarchy as we all just gathered what we could at the expense others. Law as we understand it could not exist, as it would have no basis, other than the arbitrary whims of those in power. "Because I say so" would be about it.

Maybe the way it is, is the only way it could work. Another odd observation is that in the US it seems really weird to me that the "language of holiness" if you will, is old English. By that I mean that we're overwhelmingly Christian here - and we pretty much all use the King James Bible. Which of course when you read it, sounds like Shakespeare.

So we all walk around spouting "thee's" and "thou's" and "I say onto you" etc. This was obviously translated from the original languages at some point, but now it's like - if you're a preacher, you sound like Hamlet.

Me, I worship a rusted boat on a trailer in my neighbor's driveway. Behold the holy outboard, yea, for it is a sign that like him, we must all cleave way corrosion, and apply silicone onto the pinholes in our aluminum.

Awww crap, they've gone and taken all the fun out of it. Now it reads like stereo instructions:

Numbers9, 13 King James
But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin

Numbers9, 13 NIV
But if a man who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, that person must be cut off from his people because he did not present the LORD's offering at the appointed time. That man will bear the consequences of his sin

How am I going to appear smart & all knowing, talking like that? :(

Not sure whether it was this one or not

"Hello, and welcome to Hell"
"What am I doing in Hell? I was strictly protestant"
"Me too"
"And me"
"Well, you see the right answer was the Mormons"
"Oh...."

I spent the day at home today working end of the year financials and and insurance on a new car.

There was a kock at the door around lunch time.

Two white dudes dressed to the nines...

Then I saw the name tags...Jesus Christ of Laterday Saints...

*shakes head*

I heard 'em out a bit to be polite. Then told them that I was a Presbyterian and that I believed in God, was familiar with their church and while I respected their religion, I had my own.

You know what dudes said to me?!

"Don't you think that all the different forms of Christianity today are confusing? That there are too many and while some follow the book others simply modify the word of god and twist it to suit their purposes."

I live in a fairly upscale historic neighborhood and my old German house looks pretty yuppy.

I aked him if he knew what a Benelli Nova 12 guage was?

He said "No."

I told said "Oh, it's a shotgun, new design incorporating a one piece, composite stock and receiver, a magazine capacity of 7 rounds, currently loaded with N0. 7 sport load and you had ten seconds to get off my property."

I do not think I have ever seen two dudes in jackets and ties run so fast.

I am a god fearing man, tolerant of others for certain and intolerant of other's intolerance...

Not that there is anything wrong with Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses - but my grandfather used to so something really funny. He was a presbyterian minister who retired early to rural West Tennessee around 50 b/c he had a heart condition. So he was kind of young with nothing to do and a lot of pent up energy. Anyway when Jehovah's witnesses (we don't get a lot of Mormon missions to rural west tn because there are not a lot of big towns) would knock he would invite them in. He would serve iced sun tea that he liked and then he would let them talk all they wanted. He took their pamphlets and stuff. Then when they were finished he would get his bible and do the same thing to them. He would really turn the table on them. Funny thing was that they came often and it wasn't always the same people. I have head a lot of people tell similar stories but I have seen him do it. Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are persistent and you have to respect that at some level.

Yeah, I can't do it because I lose patience and break out laughing. Wish I could, would make a great video for ebaumsworld if anybody could pull it off. Also, I've also thought it would be funny to invite them in and have a tape recording in the background of noisy *** just to see it they would acknowledge it. Could never keep a straight face though.

Yall hear wht theyre doin down here in good ole Georgia. The superintendent of Georgia public schools has folded to religious groups, and is now trying to get the teaching of Evolution removed from all schools!! No wonder Georgia has the best schools in the US! rofl

Scrim - that is not what happened you trouble maker.

GA schools will still teach that the process of evolution has occurred in Biology classes - they will just call it something else now. I heard an interview with the State Superintendent or whatever she is called and she just decided to quit fighting the use of the word evolution, not the concept.

anyway, we all know that evolution is impossible, right?
