Hi,

I got the german version of Vietcong PC game and I need to say itīs real cool and makes lots of fun... p-)
But my question is if in Vietnam really was a US base in Nui Pek or is it just fiktiv? (i hope in the english language it gives the word "fiktiv...)

Thx, Dave

Fictious or fake. Its not any of the major battle in Vietnam, Ryan.
I'm just curious since, I havent played a PC game since Longbow, is there any video game that simulates the tunnels of Cu Chi?? Or tunnel ratting? My dad was a combat engineer and worked the tunnels. Being a big guy he had the misfortune of sending in his small soliders. Often times the VC would wait holding a **** stick just near the tunnel entrance and jab the long bamboo pole into the tunnel rats groin!!
Tunneling Ratting would be an awesome scenario in VC PC game.

The tunnel rats get my respect! The defender had a huge advantage and a guy with a flashlight and a .45 would need serious guts to go crawling down there.

I guess these are among the many unsung heros of modern warfare. This here couch potato gives your pops a big kudos!

speaking of tunnel rats, according to Robin Moore there was some of that in Afghanistan. including a brit being lowered into an air shaft for a cave with a pistol and flashlight 20 feet down near tora bora. crazy stuff

I canīt understand how a human people could walk trough a tunnel system and donīt know how long it is, this would drive me crazy if i had to walk trough a tunnel like one in Vietnam...
Were the tunnels in Vietnam build from VCīs or build from vietnamese people?

Bye, Dave

Ps. Dukeīs father has got my respect for what he done in Vietnam... :

Well, duke should be able to get you up to speed better than I, but I have read some about Vietnam and if I'm not mistaken, you might find NVA regulars in tunnels. Fighting there would be scary stuff. Think about it, complete darkness, flashlight, a .45 and crawling alone. The thought alone is scary. It makes you think about what makes a man a man. Again, duke, pass it along to your father, he has my deepest respect.

Talk all you want about the Vietnam War, it was the South Vietnam people that lost it...

Dad never cleared a tunnel, he was too girthy for that. The tunnels were designed for a build and height of a Vietnamese, which he is not. Thank his men and all Tunnel Rats.
My point is-are there any PC games that simulate Tunnel Ratting in Vietnam????

Not that I know of... well, he sent the men into danger's path, that also takes nerve. What I read of the tunnel rats made me have huge respect for them.

Many people on this forum talk about the 9mm vs 45. and how pathetic the 9mm is, as in punch. Well it was during the Battle of Hue and tunnel ratting that the Army found out how ****ty it was to have a low magazine sidearm. Soliders were worried more about reloading, than targets. Numerous studies were held post Vietnam and cite Hue and tunnel ratting as scenarios needing high mags pistols.

Well, quite a few tests have found that the difference between a .45 ACP FMJ and a 9mmP FMJ regarding stopping power is negligible. Ask me and I'll take 14 rounds over 8 every day.

Reloading in a tunnel is probably not that easy either. Man, I'm thinking that crawling in one mut be what stark terror is made of!

In the PC game Vietcong there are several missions were you have to walk trough or clear vietnamese tunnels... i hated this missions... ;)
In Vietcong the helicopter flight as a M60 gunner are the funniest part, trust me... woot

Every g@dd@mn line in the movie is quotable. Best thing is, it's not so simple, they've been drafted and they're best friend is the gunnery sergeant, because he alone might get the through Vietnam alive.

I do think Kubrick was very much an anti war type (who isn't, the difference is, some are totally anti war, some see war as an alternative when other means don't work) but it doesn't degrade the movie. That is the difference between a true artist and the propaganda "master".
