I am just curious Seraphim?
Why did you object to a historical photo documenting the injuries inflicted on civilians in China but did not say anything about the giant ***** photo posted by erazer76?
Surely, that would constitute a "graphic photo" to most men?

Not really...most of the stuff I know about it is from what my old neighbour told me. He fought there (and got shot like 5 or 6 times, he has a scar on his nose from a bullet that scratched him there...lucky guy :D)

Let me get this straight
Chinese govt=a bullet in your brain if you ever protest against their suppressive government.
LA riot=a bunch of cops with itchy finger. They are individuals and they don't represent this country? Until George Bush order the National Guard to open fire on hippy protesters then we will talk.
If you ****face like communism too much. MOVE
I think i've had enough of communism for a whole year over there.

I have nothing wrong with protestors, they have a right to voice their opinions. It's rioters who destroy property that waste the police's time.

Not that I'm sayin Kent State was a good thing I'm just saying that in the US you can voice your opinion without being locked up and shot, like in China.
Like the other guy said "Until President Bush orders the national guard to open fire on any sign of anti-Bush protest STFU" or something like that.

If you're refering to the one in the early 90s, those weren't peaceful hippie antiwar kids.
I would probably react the same way if I was a lone white cop and found myself surrounded by hundreds of rampaging black guys burning and looting everything they can. :\

For those unfamiliar with the "riots" mentioned in earlier posts, here is historical context and stats.
1992 Los Angles California
On April 29, 1992, immediately following and in response to the acquittal of four white police officers charged with the use of excessive force in their beating of black motorist Rodney King, thousands of people in Los Angeles took part in mass law-breaking, including taking goods from stores, and setting fires. These acts, most commonly characterized as riots, though characterized as an uprising, rebellion, or insurrection by some, lasted about four days.
Estimates of the number of lives lost during the unrest vary between 50 and 60, and estimates of the material damage done vary between about $800 million and $1 billion. Approximately 600 fires were set, and about 10,000 people were arrested.
In addition to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), about 10,000 soldiers from the California National Guard, and thousands of soldiers from the United States Army and Marines were deployed to suppress the crowds. Smaller, concommitant riots occurred in other United States cities, including San Francisco, New York, Seattle, and Chicago.
Of those arrested, about 42% were African-American, 44% Latino, 9% White, and 2% other. These numbers are proportionate to the number of residents in the areas of Los Angeles where the events occurred, although they are not proportional to the racial make-up of Los Angeles as a whole. Stores owned by Korean immigrants were widely targeted, although stores owned by whites and blacks were also targeted.
Deaths: At least 58
Injuries: 2,383 (228 critical)
Arrests: 12,111
Fires: 7,000
Estimated damages: $717 million; 3,100 businesses affected by rioting or looting
In the months ahead, some deaths will be found not to be riot-related and the death toll will be adjusted to 54. The damage estimate will be adjusted to nearly $1 billion.
What was the Cause of Death in Los Angeles?
Not one of the estimated 54 deaths was caused by police or military action. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner classified 82% (42) of the deaths as being homicides, 16 % (8) accidental, and 1 % (1) by natural causes. The following table reports this data.
Injuries occurred in one of three ways during the civil disturbance:
(1) injured while participating in looting or rioting or were injured by someone participating in these activities;
(2) automobile related; or
(3) injured indirectly from the loss of primary care, dialysis, in-home care or other community medical services. There is no information available about the third method of injury or data on the number of people affected.
A number of riot and looting related actions caused injuries. These include shooting by hand guns and rifles; beatings, including use of a tire iron or other means; broken glass; stabbing; and burns. Persons drinking alcohol probably inflicted a number of injuries (EMSA EMT survey, comments by eye witnesses, and observations by emergency department staff.). In some cases the civil disturbance caused extreme stress in individuals, aggravating preexisting illness (chest pains, heart attack, seizures). This profile is similar to that seen in riots in the 1960s (Kentucky, 1968).
Timeline of Events: http://www.lafire.com/famous_fires/920429_LA-Riots/LATimes-2002-0429-0501/2002-0429_latimes_ChartingTheHoursofChaos.htm
Riot Injury and Death Data: http://www.usc.edu/isd/archives/cityinstress/medical/part22.html
There is no similarity in deaths and injuries between state sponsored military action in China and the riots that occurred in Los Angeles in 1992.

In reference to the riots also mentioned above
1969 New York
Being born in NY, the only one I can recall would have been the infamous June 28, 1969 'Stonewall' gay riots were four policemen were injured. Surely, this not the one you were referencing?
Last Friday the privacy of the Stonewall was invaded by police from the First Division. It was a raid. They had a warrant. After two years, police said they had been informed that liquor was being served on the premises. Since the Stonewall was without a license, the place was being closed. It was the law. I don't understand you post. Are you suggesting that a police office was responsible for a riot related murder in 1969. That is false.
The police officer that was brought to trial for the 1969 "murder" was acquitted by a jury in October 19, 2002. It turns out two gang members were convicted for the crime!
York Mayor Charles Robertson, was was a police officer in 1969.
Robertson, who sat stone-faced during the four-week trial, cried and hugged his lawyers when his not-guilty verdict was read shortly after 6 p.m.
You should really check your facts before you post items!

One thing about tienimen square that was smart on the Chinese gov't part, they used garrisons from way outside the city to put down the uprising instead of local troops who may have refused the orders, and thus joined with the students to create a possible civil war.
