Are they allowed to shoot through glass? Say the terrorist guy saw the police and began poping the hostages right away, would the Police shoot through the windows or would they have to wait till the dude breaks the windows? Also, how would they open the subway doors, or whats to stop him from no moving the subway train to a tunnel area where the Police can't enter the subway train as easily but have only two ways of entering the subway (front and back) easy to pick off police then no?

tony6

What do You mean "Are they allowed to shoot through glass?"?
You shoot to got the man down-if the man is behind the glass-You shoot through the glass.
I told You-this was just a "show" for media (don't You see photo-reporters?:)
It had to look good in the evening news:)

No but say the bad guy sees the cops comming through the window and the police see that the bad guy is about to shoot the hostage will the cop fire a burst through the window shattering the glass making it go everywhere, or wll he wait for the door to be open then pop the bad guy with a burst?

So, BOA and GROM looks cool. But its not important for this units, do they looks the same. Most important is the same level of skills. They should cooperate and started training together. If they dont, it will be(or could be) very bad for polish citizens. I hope they started soon. I have a dream, they started tomorrow, hahaha.

The question is...what is he doing with a sniper rifle in a subway?

It was a show for the media to show the media the units capabilities and weapons. That said I imagine it was just out on display for the media and didn't have any tactical role.

mack pl
02-07-2004, 03:20 AM
Why you thinking , he cannot use sniper rifle in subway?? I think in some situations its possible. If sniper want to kill the driver for example, haha. Or, he cover his comrades from assault squad when they are attacking, or something like that. But maybe the primary reason why he(sniper) is there is this show for press. BTW my dream about BOA and GROM was stupid, ehhh. I guess they never will training together. Its very bad. Hasta la vista amigos :(

Like I said it (twice already)-it was just a show for media to show new equipment, etc.
They have been training for the couple of hours (different variants of assault). This media story was after the whole exercise.
As for the guy with a sniper rifle-I guess it can be usefull in subway-those tunnels are pretty long:)

Well it WAS department in Police but it was just disbanded :( two months ago they changed them into normal section in police :(
BOA was central unit for CT job in police.
Also from older times we have SPAT wich are regional CT units in every region there is one unit...
now there is a big chaos in "masked" units in Poland even railway security has own "anti-terririst group" witch is veeeery weak with very old equipment and without proper training they made fashion for SF units so every one wants to be cool and have one :)

Gent's who does BOA work for and what is their specific function? The BOA (acronym for Biuro Operacji Antyterrorystycznych which means Bureau of AT Operations) is the central Polish Police SPAT (= Samodzielny Pododdzial Antyterrorystyczny = SWAT) Unit (in fact is an ex-Warsaw SPAT Unit) connected with CBS (=Centralne Biuro Sledcze, Central Investigation Bureau, created in February 2000). Hmm... the CBS is something like FBI in the USA, and the BOA is CBS's fighting arm like FBI SWAT Unit.

The BOA was created after the 11st September, because Polish Police hadn't a central SWAT Unit, the all 10 main SPAT teams were indepenent and not connected each other.

give me a breakdown of the various Polish law enforcement agencies (police, border guards, treasury/customs, etc.).Ufff...

http://policja.sztab.org/policja_b.gifhttp://cbs.sztab.org/cbs-logo.jpg
- Policja (Police) with CBS (Centralne Biuro Sledcze), created to fighting with organized crime and terrorists. The Police SWAT units are called SPAT (Samodzielny Pododdzial Antyterrorystyczny) or SPAP (Samodzielny Pododdzial Antyterrorystyczny Policji).

http://bor.sztab.org/bor.gif
- BOR (=Biuro Ochrony Rzadu) it is Polish equivalent of US Special Service, which goal is to protect VIPs. In fact is a ca. 1000 person military unit subordinate to the Polish Ministry of the Interior (or MSW in Polish).

http://abw.sztab.org/abw-logo.jpg
- ABW (=Agencja Bezpieczenstwa Wewnetrznego), counter-intelligence and counter-espionage agency. Also has it own special units.

http://sg.sztab.org/sg_b.gif
- Straz Graniczna (Border Guard)

About SOK AT units- I've heard that there are 4-5 such groups (one in each DOKP), but they aren't AT or CT units, they were created to fight with drug dealers/mafia on the railway stations and smugglers in trains. Whey are better equipped and trained than normal SOK units.

Kruglerek
03-15-2004, 04:09 AM
Railway security have special unit. I don't remember their name (must check at home) but they are training with police SWAT units (for example storming of a railway coaches). They have worse equipment than police SWAT units (Glauberyt smg's, and P83 hundguns) but it may change in near future.
Police have SPAT units and one central BOA unit.
BOR have one tactical unit - Grupa Wsparcia Taktycznego - Tactical Support Group. They tacticly support the close protection agents.
ABW (=Agencja Bezpieczenstwa Wewnetrznego) Internal Security Agency have one special unit - V Counter-terrorist Activities and Realization's Safety Department of Internal Security Agency (V WYdzial Zebezpieczenia Realizacji i Dzialan Antyterrorystycznych Agencji Bezpieczenstwa Wewnetrznego) (translation could be wrong) - one of the most secretive units in Poland. When spy from other countries are localize in Poland this unit will be responsible for detaining them.
Straz Graniczna (Border Guard) - Activities Safety Department of Polish Border Guard (Wydzial Zabezpieczenia Dzialan Strazy Granicznej) - main special unit of Polish Border Guard. And couple of local special platoons.
Bureu of tresury have one central unit (Grupa Realizacyjna Biura Dokumentacji Skarbowej) and couple of small units in major cities.
Regards ;)

i saw sok masked with tactical vests and urban grey cammo they where doing excercizes taking over railway cart(? wagon? how this thing is caled in english...) A car in the American English or a carriage/coach in British English.

The SOK (=Sluzba Ochrony Kolei, Railway Security Service) never has AT units and also has own uniforms different than AT metro or green BDUs. Despite what you've seen there isn't any AT unit inside SOK. They can train with SPAT units but it means nothing.
