Duke is right. The Navy operates LCAC's (Landing Craft Air Cushioned) for use of Marine Amphibious operations, alongside the AAV, LAV-25, and eventually the AAAV.
I believe the Army used hovercraft in Vietnam but I have no idea if they are still in the inventory. I saw some footage of the British using hovercraft in Southern Iraq on the news. They appeared to be of the same type that the Army used in Vietnam. There is a Squadron-Signal book out there somewhere with information on the hovercraft "in the 'Nam". I've also heard that the U.S. Army has more vessels (including small ones) in it's inventory than the Navy. If so, I wonder where they are keeping them.

Who the f*** voted for Clinton????????!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know of the SK-5 used in the Mekong. I grew up on several posts so Ive heard a million war stories, besides my dad's and grandfathers stories. In high school I had a teacher who was aboard an army sk-5. Let me retell a story about a particular patrol he had. Once near a village on stilts his gun boat came under fire. The shooting quickly stopped, so he moved to the direction of the shooting, which came from some floating vegetation not far away. As they moved closer to investigate a solider on a machine gun suddenly opened up. My teacher said, literally, the VC began to flop around like a fish and all his thrasing about threw up blood red water. When they fished out this guy he had one arm and most of his torso missing. On the opposite bank several kids showed up and started to shoot their AK-47s and ran off. Just another day in Nam

I the f*** voted for Clinton
So ya think guys who lie under oath are good presidents, eh G3494? Well whatever. Reagan has my vote.
I'd say lying under oath about *** is bad, but the *** was not particularly relevant. How about Reagan supporters delaying the release of US hostages in Iran until after the elections?
Pardon me if I'm not well versed in these matters, but simple arguments with reason will suffice. If you really have right on your side, shouting is not called for...
I couldn't care less about the *** stuff, it's the lying under oath that pisses me off. I don't care what it was he was lying about. If he was just an average citizen he would have done time.
I was only in 1st or 2nd grade when all of the Iran hostage stuff happened. I'll have to do some research before I can comment on that.
The release of the hostages was coined the October Surprise by the Democrats. It went something like this. The campaign manager of Reagan, William Casey, more than likely had some type of influence over the Iranians to hold and then release the hostages until after the election date. It was said that the carrier between the Iranians and Reagan camp was found dead of an apparent suicide. Ironically, this man wrote a letter to his brother before his death to say he wasnt suicidal and that he was very well and that he was in danger.

Many marines and navies uses hovercraft for different purposes.
Can someone explain to me how there can such a different in loading capacity between the brittish Griffon 8100TD (one of the most popular hovercrafts in the world) and the american LCAC?
In size they are almost the same, the LCAC is slightly bigger, but the Griffon 8100TD can load 11 tons while the LCAC can load 60 tons!
LCAC Capacity 60 tons
