Hey guys (and I noticed a few gals), I'm pretty new here, been lurking around for about a year, and besides a few -ahem- douchebags and perverts-ahem-, as a whole you guys are a top-notch crowd, and I humble myself in your presence.

Anyways onto the point of this thread.

I know some of you guys here are big military history buffs, so if I may I'd like to recommend to you a heavy metal band called Iced Earth. They usually base their music on dark fantasy stuff but their newest cd that just came out is based totally on war and military histrory.

They have songs based on the Revolutionary War, Waterloo and an awesome awesome, i mean totally freaking awesome 30 minute epic based on *****sburg . They even have a song on the cd about kicking terrorist ass based on Operation Enduring Freedom and a tribute to the Navy SEALs, specifically a friend of the band leader's who was seriously wounded in Operation Anaconda.

Anyways sorry if I'm coming off like a promoter of this band, I'm just a college kid into military history and heavy metal. I'm not some fanboy seeking support for his favorite band or anything. But my mission will not be complete until the US Army accepts this band as their official mascot and sends one copy of the cd to each infantry squad to listen to on their way to battle!!(Just kidding on that) But seriously give these guys a try, hopefully this stuff is up some of your alleys.

*Crawls back into dark corner from whence I came*

BTW heres a pic of the cd artwork(this cd is full of awesome art too)

I think one of the best Military History / Heavy Metal mettings is "1916" by Motorhead. It's about some poor kids who went over the top at the Somme on July 1, 1916.

HAHAHA ;D

I love when adults wear really tight underpants and sing about dragons and swords.

Powermetal you say? What country is that band from?

Yeah Dance of Death by Iron Maiedn is pretty awesome too, I really like the song based on Paschendale, it really captures the feeling of trenchwarfare of WWI.
