Raphael Liberatore, of Computing Gaming World magazine, names Americas Army: Special Forces the best tactical sim... maybe of all time!
Liberatore said, As a result, Americas Army is now one of the best, if not the best tactical sim to grace a computer. The addition of new maps, weapons and character models make it stand out against similar games...
"The Quiet Professionals Get to Work"
The latest version of America's Army goes further in-depth on what it is like to be in the Special Forces with the addition of the Special Forces character. Its a great glimpse into what it means to be one of these elite combatants.
Liberatore further explains why the game should be considered the best sim game available by saying Americas Army: Special Forces v2.0 is notable for a number of reasons. It adds the critical role of a combat medic class, so healing injured teammates during combat can mean the difference between winning and losing a match. It includes four newly made or revised maps, along with new weapons like the Army-issue M9 9mm, SPR Rifle, MP5SD6, AKS-74U, the 4k hot Thermite Grenade, and more. Graphics, sound, character models, and ballistics also get make-overs, including beefed up server protocols and the anti-cheating program punkbuster. But the focus of 2.0 details the history and training of the U.S. Armys elite Special Forces soldiers. Its a great glimpse into what it means to be one of these elite combatants.
The U.S. Army Special Forces team has been in existence since 1944. The new organizations name was derived from The Office of Strategic Services. The Army allocated 2,300 personnel slots for the unit and assigned it to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. On June 19th, 1952, the 10th Special Forces Group was activated. Colonel Aaron Bank and Colonel Russell Volckmann, two OSS operatives who remained in the military after World War II, worked tirelessly to convince the Army to adopt its own unconventional guerrilla-style force, hence the creation of Special Forces.
Modern day Special Forces tactics are used to outline the structure of the game. Players are required to pass training missions very similar to the real-life training of Special Forces soldiers. Once training is completed, they are sent out to compete in the virtual battlefield. The player has several options as to what character they wish to play, whether it is a medic, sniper, Special Forces, or as an indigenous force. Honor, integrity and teamwork is what makes this game stand out against the rest. As Raphael said, I might be predisposed, but I know a good thing when I see it. Everything in 2.0 makes Americas Army more intense, more gripping, and more deserving of its status as the top tactical sim. Why dont you see if you have what it takes to be Special Forces?
