He said Joseph P. Smith, 37, has been charged with her murder. He is believed to be the tattooed man in a mechanic's shirt who was seen in a car wash surveillance video leading Carlie away by the arm Sunday evening, authorities said.

I've got a kid about the same age, and this stuff breaks my heart. Having kids fundamentally changed me, almost overnight. I went from a handwringing leftie to a right wing a-hole in the space of a year. It's a real reality check.

I'd suggest a different punishment. If he's found guilty, leave him in a shipping container with the parents for a couple of hours, and televise the results.

I think one of the reasons that our criminal justice system doesn't work is because the punishment is hidden. Criminals simply disappear and reappear. If their punishment was public, and people could see what becomes of lawbreakers, I think it would help.

I agree absolutely 2 Sheds... having children does change us... and for the better. I have never loved anyone as absolutely as I love my children. I loved their father more than I can say (still do), but even that is nothing compared to how I feel about them. They are a part of me. I would die for them without hesitation, and I would kill to protect them.

Criminals who prey on children are the worst of the worst.

That little girl's family is on my mind.

A guy in my politics class in grade 12 was from Palestine and he said that in their Criminal Justice System if a child molester/murderer was caught the police would put the criminal and the family of the victim in an arena and the family was given a gun with only 1 loaded round. They could either shoot the person or if they chose not to the government would give them a large sum of money. I never really thought this made sense cause i mean if the people never killed the criminal then wouldnt the government have to spend more money on the guy by putting him through prison and then they would have the family payment to make as well. But this guy urged me to blieve him and since I have never been to Palestine nor do i know anything about their CJS I wasn't really on grounds to disagree. :|

Something needs to be done to our system. People shouldn't be arrested 14, 15, 16 times and be back on the streets. Maybe if the death penalty was brought back into more common use, we'd see a change in things.
