Four soliders attempt to steal a million dollars. Thought there was something about dishonoring "my unit, country..." nevermind that's the Marine Corps.

LOL....yeah. Although with a few hundred trillions of US dollars being found every other day....it was BOUND to happen.

C'mon man....haven't you ever seen "Kelly's Heroes" or "Three Kings" woot

Yeah, Three Kings did come to mind when I first saw this.

The Anti-War babblers will probably have a field day with this :cantbeli:

It's tough sometimes when you win a war and there's no spoils to go with it. The only thing you have are people saying thank you one day, and marching in a parade chanting death to America 3 days later. Obviously what they did was wrong but I can see how it could happen.

Yeah, I cant see the harm if some of the money was to accidentally 'fall' into their bags. Hmmm, I wonder how much cash you could fit in an ammo pouch on your vest? It would fit nicely no?

If I were to steal some loot, I think I wouldn't go overboard. Carrying 3/700 000 =233 000 back to the US isnt going to be easy. "Hey private whats that huge bulge in your seabag??" I hidding it for later would also be alittle difficult. I think I would cram as much as I could in my pants or any container I had. I mean an e-3 with 4 years has a basic pay of 1528, my point is dont get too greedy.

if i were them, i would have hidden it out in the middle of nowhere somewhere, but somewhere where i could find it later (possibly make a treasure map) and just leave it there and in a couple years when i'm out of the military come back to iraq for vacation and collect it then and smuggle it back into the states. like pirates. argh p-)

You come back a year later, follow the map, look up from the map and find a Taco Bell and Starbucks where your loot was stashed.

Better yet, a police station!

obviously those guys made a split second decision, and are gonna pay the price for making the wrong choice.

I'm sure it would be hard to resist considering one bundle of $100,000 is more money than the vast majority of those guys will ever see.

Has this story been confirmed by the pentagon? If not this story is a load of sh*t.The NY post is very liberal and will do anything to get a customer.Even one that said osama Bin Laden has been captured.

Actually if I'm thinking of the right one, the Post is rather right leaning, not left. They had taken the photo of the French and German delegates at the UN and put weasel heads on them.

But to be honest, searching my inner self. Dang!!! I probably would have tried that too. Have to be that honest. Finding crates of money that can't be traced in a country where no rules seems to be present.

I feel sorry for that they got tempted.

Right or wrong, looting is as old as war. Americans in war have always pillaged once the shooting stopped. "Band of Brothers"-- both the book and the mini-series-- did an excellent job of putting our penchant for "souvenirs" into context. The Russians, when they pushed the Nazis back into Germany at the end of WWII, institutionalized looting. At least our G.I.s aren't raping and purposely killing civilians. To put men in harms way, then try to rein in the dogs of war afterwards is quite difficult and often impossible. No doubt they'll do time but, hopefully, the court martial will take into consideration the temptation the men certainly felt at seeing more money than they and their entire families combined could make in a lifetime.

The NY Post is one of the most conservative newspapers in the country and is owned by Murdoch, who also owns Fox.

:) Reminds me of that part from the POW motto: "... won't embarass my country."

American and British soldiers have a long history of making our country proud of them. I'm just stating that even the best soldiers after experiencing the heat of battle, will give into temptation.

Most POWs, God bless 'em, try to honor that motto, but whenever physical torture became a daily event, many could not live up to the motto and did what they had to do to survive or keep their buddies alive. Embarrassing their country was the least of their worries. :o
