Constitutionalist take to the streets, in this picture
there is a famouse Italian mercanary Ilio Capocci, he is the one on the left with the helmet and camo. he was claimed to have been the brains behind some pretty daring attacks and even helped train the infamous RANAS, which was a naval
commando unit that was responsible for alot of the damage done in the city of Santo Domingo

The United States steps in to evacuate american citisenz, but later on the real mission is to make sure the constitutionalist don't restore Juan Bosch, who was elected in 1961, but overthrown a year later. His supporters in the military and elsewhere vowed to out back the first democratically elected president since 1930, when dictator Rafael Trujillo took power until he was assasinated in 1961.

Really good posting!. I've read the book from Vargas Llosa (La Fiesta del Chivo) but was not aware of the Dominican Republic's history after Trujillo's downfall.

thanks man. "La Fiesta del Chivo" is a great book, itll make even a better movie, I have some pics of it being filmed. After Trujillo was assasinated alot people were scared, probly more scared than when he was alive because they feared the whole place would fall apart cos he was keepin it all together, and even today alot of the things Trujillo left Dominican culture acustumed to are still relevent.

IIRC, thats a Swedish tank. I think Sweden sold like 10 to the DR in the late 50s.

It's a CETME...Useless trivia time: IIRC the Dominican Intervention was the only time the USMC's Ontos tank destroyer actually engaged tanks in its primary role. In Vietnam the Ontos was mainly used as firebase fire support.
