I found this on another forum, a Veteran read it after asking "which one are we"

POPPY DAY

When you watch the parade
What do you see?
A group of old duffers shambling along
Wearing bits of old uniform and maybe a gong
Out of step, out of time, the wrong generation
Glorifying old wars of an old-fashioned nation.

When you listen to the band
What do you hear?
Praise to the lord who is now out of style
From a generation of men who gather awhile
Their out of tune singing all feeble and weird,
In praise of an empire long since disappeared.

When you hear the last post
Of what do you think?
Hurry up! Hurry up! What are we waiting for?
Have to get home as we don’t want anymore
Wasting of time, there is so much to do,
Work to be done before this day is through.

OR

When you watch the parade
Is this what you see?
The proud old men who strive to walk tall
In memory of comrades who gave their all
Who stand in all weathers: hail, sleet and snow
In respect of old comerades whom we’ll never know.

When you listen to the band
Is this what you hear?
Old soldiers ever thankful for surviving the war
Remembering their friends whom they’ll see no more
With a tremor in their voice and a tear in their eye
Reliving their memories as each year goes by.

When you hear the last post
Is this what you think?
Of the men who have fallen so the rest of us may
Live lives of freedom without fear day by day.
When you leave the parade do you go home and say
“For our tomorrow they gave their today”?

Lest We Forget

Go out to your local cenotaphs and legions today and pay some respect

X10!!!

Did a talk yesterday to my daughter's 1st Grade class on "Veteran's Day". Explained what a veteran is and why they should say, "thank you" today.

In Britain the Vets do not keep or wear their old uniforms. If you are on parade as a Vet in Britain thgen you would be wearing grey trousers, a blazer with a regimental badge, and your medals, a Regimental tie, plus your beret and reigmental cap badge

A recent poll taken in Canada suggest that attendence at these Rememberence Day ceremonys has fallen substantially.Today my young family attended our towns act of Rememberence Ceremony and I feel that more people were there than the last previous years. It is my responsibility as a father to insure that my son has a firm understanding of the price that had to be paid to ensure this countrys FREEDOM.From Friezenburg to Italy to Afghanistan it is very important to all Canadians that our youth have knowledge of our distinct military history.
