Nice vid..
But..
One fatal mistake they made..
THEY STOPPED!
rofl
Rhodesians were the masters of anti-ambush ops..
And their tactics included speeding away from the ambush zone..
Then they would rally up and pursue / face and elimate the Ambushers on foot!
They also had all kinds of anti ambush devices..
Here:
"Mine Shrapnel no.2"
Mounted on sides Unimog truck with steel plates, test only, once fired killed 11 enemies..
"Police Grenade Launcher"
Modified .303 SMLE rifle to shot grenades..
"Police Land-Rover Gunships"
Two AK-47 rifles mounted on vehiles firing side-ways 400-500 installed..
"The Spider"
Up to 20 12 gauge shotgun barrels in semi-circle, mounted on vehicles..
"The KQ (Kill Quick..)"
Multi-barrel shotgun, mounted on vehicles..
"The Persuader"
Multi-barrel shotgun, mounted on vehicles, electronic firing, can be fired one barrel at the time..
"Holland Hale Organ"
Cannon barrels loaded with pieces of steel (one barrel could be load up to 450g of steel..) and rocket powder, mounted on sides, rear and front of the vehicles..
"Adams Gun"
Two single-barreled shotguns mounted side ways in vehicles..
"The Sting"
Another multi-barrel shotgun device mounted on vehicles..
"The Durbin Cannon"
Another multi-barrel shotgun device mounted on vehicles..
"Com-Tech Gun"
Another multi-barrel shotgun device mounted on sides of the vehicles, gives 90 degrees coverage..
Purpose of these RHODESIAN ANTI-AMBUSH DEVICES was to help a convoy of vehicles to get out of the line of fire of the enemy, but the RHODESIAN WAR was not only driving away from the enemy: Tactics included that once convoy had escaped the initial AMBUSH, they would halt the vehicles study the bullet holes on the vehicle so figuring out from what direction they were fired upon.. and once the enemys supposed location was known a counter attack followed.. usually with good results.. for the RHODESIANS..
Ive posted this in past on other forum..

There are far better ways to avoid IED/RPG ambushes. I wouldn't want any of that crap going off if I had to dismount or was thrown out of a vehicle.
The best way is to secure the MSRs. Deploy some snipers at night and when Joe Hajji tries to place an IED, pop.

That video clip is from the AFN(American Forces Network) news.
To me the soldiers still don't have a lot of firepower, and are still exposed
when firing their rifles. They should have the Stryker's remote control
turret mounted on the uparmored humvees, and have the M240 7.62
mm, .50 cal machineguns, and the Mk 19 grenade machinegun mounted
on the turret for maximum firepower.

Yeah..
On the other hand..
G.I.s are better off when sticking to their cars.. and vehicles..
As bad experiences from Nam, including 'road side ditches' and explosive cord(s)..
comes to mind..

One way to avoid IED is to avoid roads.
I know this sounds simple and may not even be possible because
it would require tracked vehicles in some cases.
But it would work !!
If all the vehicles in a convoy were off-road capable, one could simply take a random path every day.

The Round to Hit ratio would probably be a little different if they were take'n return fire too.

good idea!!! but frankly I don't see that working in urban enviroment, where the IEDs seem to be.

Nope.
All of our conscripts go through basic training which includes also live fire defence and offence...

Deploy snipers at night to cover tens of thousands of kilometres of MSR/frequently used roads. Top idea.
#1 Where do you get all the snipers from?
#2 How do you protect/resup them covertly?
#How do you support/extract them when one finally has a contact?
etc. etc.

Why oh why do you Yanks (my appologies to those here that actually know what the f**k they're talking about) think that driving around with mirrored Oakleys, three tons of armour and half a dozen crew served weapons is the way to sucess on CI Ops???? :cantbeli:
Anti-ambush in a nutshell:
Return fire agressively, send ConRep, extract from the killing area by the quickest possible route, ReOrg and continue with your tasking.

That is just such a big "of course". When does americans have their first
live fire combat exercise? After boot camp? 3-4 months after that even? Someone?
I think i just must have missunderstood what the man said. Hm.

I also don't get why the hell they would stop! - Because it WAS NOT a react to ambush drill...
It was a familiarization fire that was video taped which was in preperation for a live fire TO BE CONDUCTED... this was a familiarization to get the troops familiar to firing from vehicles. This allows troops to gain confidence in the CRAWL WALK RUN style of progression and will limit safety risks on the real range.

Another case of Bundeswehruntypisches Übung? rofl.
Now if those yanks had been driving while shooting rather than stopping to steady aim, I guess the target hit rate wouldn't have been as good as reported :D.
Not as good as dear old Mr. X-ray and Victor leaning out of the side window of a Merc pumping 20 shots into the fire slit of 4-26 CP from their Colt commandos while one hand aiming and driving past at 40 mph over speed bumps anyway :|.
