Recently I've started playing fife for my corps' Ceremonial Guard.. and was wondering if there any other fifers or flute players on the boards.

In England. Scotland and Wales it's actually a legal requirement for school children to be taught the fife to a grade 2 standard. It's the only way to prevent the countryside from being infested with weasels. The sound of the fife renders them impotent and confuses them to the equivalent level of the first few seconds after waking up in someone elses bed.
Of course, there is no guarantee the weasels will be in earshot of the fife playing. So, every wednesday, we march out into prime weasel areas whilst playing. As they're overcome with confusion we then proceed to stab them with our specially sharpened fife. If you get them at the base of the neck the little ****ers won't feel a thing.
Hence the terms "Weasel dumb" and "Buggered by a fife".

That fife is IDENTICAL to mine. It's sort of like a high-pitched flute.
Right now I'm learning the song "Blue Bells of Scotland"..
Though at the moment I'm practising my fingering. *snicker*

I play pennywhistle and flute (irish/simple system). The fingering systems are basically the same as a fife. I've always thought about picking one up, but have never gotten around to it.
I did recently buy a Hohner Melodica though (which has nothing at all to do with fifes).

We had to learn to play on flute and cymbals in elementary school. We had to play on awfull plastic flutes. I smashed mine 5 min after our last music lesson.

Haha, that's funny because fife refers to fag in French.
