Good news....woot woot woot
check out my post in the 'european football thread' The turkish players went nuts after the game and trew punches and kicks on the swiss team. One swiss player needed treatment (kick in his manhood) in the hospital after they had to lock themselves in the cabin.

I hope the few hundred swiss supporters do well. They should loose their right for home games in the Euro 08 qualification. And nobody tell me the swiss started it. They won and celebrated and Eurosport doesn't lie. It was a big brawl in front of the cabin. Fueled by frustration.

By "cabin," I trust you mean, "locker room?"
ah yeah... 'Kabine' in german.
sorry german (http://www.nzz.ch/2005/11/16/sp/tic/nzzam-sp-20051116_brz039.html):
players were pelted with objects when they left the pitch and some fans attacked them, one security guard punched a swiss goal-coach in the face and in the catacombs (without fans) the turkish players started throwing kicks and punchs. (a few injured one needed hospital treatment after a sever kick in the abdomen)
fair enough Halil Altintop (plays, lives and was born in germany) tried to apologize for the others. Some of the swiss play in the german Bundesliga, too. They're maybe even teammates, i'm not sure.
This is typical Turkish behaviour...They are always looking for troubles or fights

Even the Greek press had wrote we had reacted correct on the swiss team's arrival to Istanbul after the provacations we had to deal in Bern.
Zepp Platter as a FIFA head has also confessed in his press conferance that he has watched the game as a swiss and he evaluates the things as a ****ing swiss.
Swiss "had" to qualify and they've done everything to do that.

Go to hell with your EU accession negotiations. The behavior of the Turks (authorities, players, supporters, population) has shown AGAIN that the Turks are NOT ready to join the EU. The Turks started this riot, not the Swiss. And the so called "provocations" of the Swiss are just a invention of the Turkish media to excuse the degrading treatment of the Swiss players.
BTW: As for me I'm really glad that Turkey is not qualified. This will reduce the violent incidents in 2006. Less Turks = less violence. That's sad, but true.

Attention to FIFA Management,
We have listened Sepp Platter's comments in Press Meeting today. Not
only his remarks are not objective but also partizan which may result
undesirable results between countries. All events' happened in first
match in Switzerland have not been taken in consideration but only
short period of time after the revenge he talked to press emotionally.
His speech is not suitable for a FIFA president, we hereby advise
FIFA's executive board to take proper actions.

Gentlemen, as much as I'm not impressed with the reaction of the Turkish players to onfield events, let's not get into the business of saying this reflects Turkish society as a whole. After all, who are the worst football hooligans in Europe? Not the Turks, that's for certain. This is, at its basest, an isolated and unfortunate incident - and punishment should be metted out to individual players involved.
But let's stop talking about how bararic and evil Turkey is for a little scuffle between frustrated individuals on the playing field.
Less flaming that way.

There are more than seventy million Turks in Turkey. How can you judge them all on the basis of a single football match and the behaviour of hardcore fans and players?

I hate hooligans, and hooliganism. It painted a bad image of english football for along time. But on the subject of hooligans and where they are the worst i would say Italy, spain, and yes TURKEY. All three nations have hooligan problems of different degrees.
Spain- Hooligans have a tendancy for racist chants and alike. Yep, we have all heard the monkey chants ringing through their stands. Hell, their coach is a racist git, remember the henry incident. Spains major problem is that FIFA, UEFA, and the spanish FA have not confronted the problem, so it is doomed to continue.
Italy- Probly has the worst club level violence in europe. Every time Lazio playsm, especially against Roma you see big scenes of violence. What about Inters incident last year during Champions league? Once again, UEFA and especially the Itralian FA have totally and utterly failed to confront the problem, and punish the offenders.
Turkey- I would say that turkey at home, whether its a club team or their national team are the worst. The list of their indiscretions over recent years is getting longer and longer and very disturbing. Starting with the Leeds fans who were knifed, the becks vs alpay scuffle, and now the switzerland game to mention just a few. The turkish FA first of all needs to clamp down on its players and coaches. Fans idolize these people and when they see them acting like gits, of course the fans will as well. The next step is to control the fans. Through missles on the pitch is way off the mark and has to stop. sure, you can be passionate, but your actions should not produce physical harm to anyone. Unless the turkish FA steps up and realizes they have a problem nothing at all will ever be accomplished.
England- Yea, we had problems, and still have some issues to overcome but the FA has taken a leading role in confronting hooligans. People aree now given bans for life from football matches, and denied entry to nations holding big tournaments. Turkey, spain, Italy, WAKE UP!!!!!
Cheers,
Paul

Poor Turks, you are the only one believing in the bs your media serve you.
And that’s even wrong because the Turks living here know what the reality is.
During the match both team did not play very well and both made lots of mistake.
Now what happened during the first mach was nothing in comparison to what happened in Istanbul. Whistling over the Turkish national anthem is a bad thing but no fights and no administrative problem happened.
For Sepp Blatters reaction your players and officials should have thought of this before.
And don’t think I hate turkey or Turkish people, I was very happy when Kubilay Turkyilmaz, then Akan and Murat Yakin played for Switzerland.;)

It's cheaper in your country..
Nothing here is cheap by your standards.
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/rankorder/2004rank.html
1 Luxembourg $ 58,900
2 United States $ 40,100
3 Guernsey $ 40,000
4 Norway $ 40,000
5 Jersey $ 40,000
6 British Virgin Islands $ 38,500
(..)
101 Turkey $ 7,400

It's a muslim thing. The best insults involves something with the ******ity of the female family members.
Ok, can we leave the mothers out of the conversation? Anyway Kontra my condolences about your family loss.

Huggel, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany's Bundesliga, said he had been gripped by fear and panic and insisted his attack on Mehmet Ozdilek was retaliatory.
"I'm only happy that I came out of there alive," he said.
Bild showed a picture of Ozdilek with his foot outstretched as Swiss players passed him after the final whistle.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta said three Turkish officials had tried to kick him in the leg while goalkeepers' coach Erich Burgener said he had been attacked by stewards in the stadium tunnel.
"It was unbelievable," Burgener told French sports daily L'Equipe.
"I was punched in the face and was hit on the hip (where he has a replacement). I was beaten up by stewards. When I saw four or five guys come and beat me while they were supposed to protect me, I got really scared," he added.
Turkey's Hamit Altintop, a Kaiserslautern player who also featured in the match, told Bild it was painful to know the world was talking about the incident.
"You need to know we have a very different mentality. We are more emotional when we lose. We cannot lose," he was quoted by the paper as saying.

Dude...no problem. I'm not defending anything that happened after the game..Did I say "we should have killed a couple of them"? We kicked ass only in the game on the field. There is nothing to defend about how the things turned out at the end.
All I'm saying is, It's beeing evaluated unfairly and one sided. We weren't playing against such a "civilized" people.
BTW...I'm still a New Orleans Saints Football team supporter. Every sunday night/early morning, one of the Turkish TV channels sends live NFL games ;)

Hey Turkey
Even Australia qualified!
It wasn't the first brawl. Two years ago the German U21 team had to suffer from the same security men and officials (Mike Franz was beaten with a walkie-talkie and had to be stiched) in Istanbul after they scored the important 1:1 and qualified for the WC.
A German reporter who wanted to film the Turkish players and officials kicking and slapping the Swiss was beaten and his camera was turned to the wall. The reporter told the press later on that the Turkish officials had warned him 10 minutes before the game ended not to film the players. Kinda strange if you are warned that something was going to happen that shouldn't be filmed by the reporters. I say it was planned from the very beginning! The Swiss team was searched for drugs at the airport for 4 hours and the passport check took 2 hours. They were then welcomed by the Turks at the airport with this:

It is German and means: "You ****ing son of a bitch, Frei" or "I **** your mother". But you can see the level of stupidity of these people, because they even misspelled the words. Those crazy bastards.
here is the article. Only in German: http://www.blick.ch/sport/fussball/artikel28041

They are stronger then many suggest. And it's more then fair, because they play in a group that always needs a crucial play off to get in. This way the margin of failure is very thin. Glad they're in.

Being that Switzerland is a multi-lingual nation, i think it would have been more EU friendly if the fans had their little signs in french and italian as well. After all, if you want in to the EU you have make sure and be politically correct and even with everyone. So, in the future, please ensure you have multilingual signs so everyone can enjoy your encouraging words.
Cheers,
paul
