View Full Version : No bashing here

Military to military connections between the US and France have always been good. The Frenchmen I meet in Djibouti are first rate and have conducted hardcore training for some of our troops.

The issue has been a French foreign policy that has been quite consistent in its anti-Americanism. As I've heard said before, France is certainly not the 'evil empire'. In fact, during the Cold War, France actaully did some of the covert ops the US couldn't do after Gerald Ford. However, both left and right regimes in France create Polity and Policy with a perceived(and sometimes real sense) of fear for American hegemony.

So listen up, my French brothers, you won't hear bashing from me. Now, I may not like some of your government policies, as you no doubt don't care from some of mine, but civility can pevail.

I haven't posted much in these forums; I get pretty turned off by the whining, bull****, and too many people with a chip on their shoulder.

I agree. The french armed forces are skilled, and have done a decent job in Africa. However, the actions of their politicians are sickening. As are the attitudes and arrogance of many of their people.

Yes, you most certainly can.

I haven't been able to rag about the Brits and Aussies I work with here in Qatar. I'll do my best to try. Just for you. ;)

Someone living in the country doesn't make them a cowboy, I live in Dallas not on a farm but a gated golf course community, and the only cows I see are the ones at McDonalds, but I've been around Saskatoon to Winnipeg not everyone there are farmers.

I have no problem with the french but i do have a problem with those French Canadians/Quebec bunch of wannabesThere seems to be a disconect in what you are saying. It is a little bold to accusse all French Canadians of wanting to seperate. The idea was shut down twice by Quebequios at the polls. Don't think that Quebec is the only provice with a significant French population either.

He's Albertan and has never met a French person in his life, no worries. Making fun of Eastern Canadians in general is what we do, it just seems the French population is a little easier to pick on than the Newfies or Ontario peeps.

(And his (our) French teacher was a bitch, and had this wierd affinity for picking on him for not speaking French well... it's probably something to do with that rofl )

Agreed on all points. I love the French as a people (I know a few that I would call good friends), but it's just their government that I disagree with.

I'm sure it is the same on the other side of the yard, I think most French and Europeans like Americans as a people, but this recent falling out the national leaders have had has caused some bad blood.

But, hey, sometimes there needs to be some feuding to become even stronger. Silver is not pure until it is tossed in the fire and put under tremendous pressure. Part of me sees this whole mess as one would see two siblings having a fight.

Anyway, have a good day, ya'll. I'm off for some Freedom Fries. p-)

Oh that's just it? I though actually that some extremist French Canadian people killed your family. On an another thread, you stated that you would like to nuke us?!!?! Damn, man, how old are you?

I don't like either English Canadian, but I can live with it and not publicly insult them on a forum.

We actually had 2 referendum. One in the '70 lost 40-60. The second in 95 lost 49,4-50,6. close one. The partie québécois promised an other referendum when the partie Libéral will get kicked out of the province in 3 years.

About the Constitution, don't forget that the others provinces signed it "in the back" of René Lévesque, he wasnt aware of it. More over, some terms were unacceptable. That's fait to me.

C'est pas en disant des conneries du genre que tu vas t'attirer la faveur du forum. Essaie de faire ça plus objectif.

That's a good thing. :)

I assume you don't practice your French a lot, maybe I'm wrong.

The advantage is that I can speak 2 languages perfectly. And I took some German and Spanish courses at school. Who else in Canada can say so?

Haiw
02-09-2004, 11:13 AM
Yea you're right, I hardly ever practise it these days (I was glad I finally got rid of it back then). But still my French skills aren't that bad, and good enough to pick up most things, even though it was always the language with the lowest priority for me (after Dutch, German & English). Dutch education rocks! woot If you pay at least some attention you should be able to speak Dutch & English near perfect (though of course with an accent), be able to read Afrikaans perfectly (because the written Afrikaans is like a dumbed down version of Dutch), and be at least fairly decent at German and French. woot

Caesar
02-09-2004, 11:27 AM
Hey that's great. I'll try one day for sure to learn some Dutch.

Can you translate in English and Dutch my last statement in French? No online dictionary, of course ;)

BTW, they don't speak like that in France, this is more Quebecer-French than French-French.

I got a good aptitude for languages, but I am lazy. :(
Should do more for my Spanish, because of my studies, more for my Dutch, because I need it, too.
But I got Latin! Which really helped me a lot in my studies so far. :| *nosarcasmhere*

My English is ok, I guess, but I envy bilingual people and countries. I am not sure how the majority of the Canadians feels about the "other" side of the nation, be they Quebecois or English, but I think bilingualism is one of the best things you can have in your life. It gives you insight into 2 cultures and that more worth than a lot other things.

 You understand my point completely.

About Latin... hehehe, I had 2 years of Latin in secondary 1 and 2 (I had 13-14 years old back then) Total nightmare. We had to memorize tons of words, translate sentences... I'd prefer Spanish course instead. English class was also weird, we were only doing crap activities. :)

But Sarkozy seems to be very unpopular. He seems to be everywhere instead of other minister and he made and will make a lot of unpopular reform.

Strangely :) Sarkozy seems to be the only UMP member doesn't contradict the decision of justice.

There hasn't been any hand holding or gushing praise in this thread, but it is very civil. The mild ribbing people give eash other is good for the soul. This is more like the discussions I'd like to see.
