Those gloves were originally designed for mountain bikers.

And they are teh secks for that too. JC I don't know wich kind of riding you do on your MX (track or trails) but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a pair if I were you (well the MX type not the tac ones p-)). They saved my knuckles on quite few occasions on the downhill trails.

I'm too cheap to buy 'em anyways:) I have some $20 Thor MX gloves and they do the job just fine. I dropped the big dollahs on my lid and neck brace.

Black Diamond had some good double gloves and mitts. I have a pair of each. I would not get goretex ones. Just be sure they are seam sealed. In Sub zero it don't matter. Seal seams is for rain.

Technical climbing does not require Techie cloths. One does not climb on their knees. Stay on your toes and away from the ice. Our natural propensity is to hug the wall, a No No. With crampons, keep the heels down.

With reverse curve tools, Hang them don't bash them in. When I followed, I would use the leaders Ice axe scars to place my tools. Very little effort to place and remove.

Layering on gloves is a good idea. A very light finger glove allows the hand to be free, yet maintain warmth.

The best drytool glove out there atm are the Alibi Gloves, http://www.outdoorresearch.com/site/browse/Handwear/Ice.html

Theyre so good they have been banned in many ice and drytooling competitions. I just made an order from Outdoor research but didnt order them, they dont fit me :(, which is good cuz theyre bloody expensive. I havent tried the grivel ones.

I'm looking for a pair of gloves for mountainbiking. Preferably with some kind of (frontal) reinforcement on the fingers, breathability and a sweat wipe of some sorts. They must be light enough to articulate properly and enable a good grip on a mountainbike while at the same time keeping my hands at least somewhat warm.

Right now, all i have are fingerless gloves(which you DON'T want to wear this time of the year around here) some light fleece gloves, and thinsulate ones, which are a britch to hold a grip with.

Anyone got any recommendations? Would be much obliged.

Oakley bro (as I recommanded few pages back). I had a pair like JC just posted but dunno... Never had great experience with Fox products as a whole. I just stick to TLD and Oakley.

I also wore some Shift some time ago, a little less expensive than Oakley and still more durable than Fox.

I climbed with Powerstretch's on, and they'd get wet on steep snow/ice. Swap out for my thicker shell-type gloves when one reaches a ridge or exposure to weather/wind/etc, and place the damp ones in my pants to dry out a bit. They can hold water for a loooong time, though.

Might get some Sealskinz or other thin, waterproof glove for this instead. I can't afford the expensive do-it-all gloves yet.

Just got a pair of Camelbak Magnum Force gloves. I was looking for a pair that has protection along the fingers, so these take care of that. The fingers are a little short for me, but that's normal. I always get a large for longer fingers, but with hard knuckle gloves like these, they end up being a bit wide. I hope they hold up better than my blackhawk gloves!

This may be true, but in my experiences no matter how much you pay for a set of gloves they tend to wear out in four months or so. So $19.95, or ~$80?

Oakley gloves are a rip off in comparrison to Mechanix gloves. The Oakley's may last twice as long but at 4 to 5 times the price it doesn't make good math......but if you want to pay for LCF feel free.

I had the exact same problem. Problem is that you can't combine warmth and search friendly gloves in one. For thats its better to have a warm jacket and pockets to put your hands. And so I have the perfect solution for you *runs over to the cabinet to see the name of the gloves and runs back*

during my last (10-month) deployment i went thru 2 pair of issued nomex flight gloves and (almost) 2 pair of oakley gloves. i figure if they're not going to last long, they might as well be comfortable.

can anyone shed some light on these gloves? are they a "PX special" or something this Ranger had to order?

was curious about the same thing, guess thats why you don't see artic soldiers with oakley handwear.

always thought the oaks could survive mountain/alpine terrain though ?

does anyone have first hand experience if the oaks aren't warm in winter/cold weather ?

would the assault gloves from wiley or blackhawk be better ?

No gloves like that are warm. You can pick a good warm glove (ie look for some leather with tinsulate or similar) or a thin glove where you can keep your fine agility.
Also, when it's cold, as in so cold that you have to cover your hands, wear mittens. And since you wear mittens when it's cold, drill with them. Because if you can change a mag in 4 seconds with mittens, you sure as hell can do it quicker with a thin 5 finger glove.

My 2 cents, and that's how I roll yo.

thats fair enough, perhaps they'd make one b/c there isnt a product out there yet

or if anything, troopers would wear a liner INSIDE an assault glove....whether there's no layer built in, they can just add one in

wonder if any members have some input also if they're from areas with some snow

My Petzl Cordex (http://www.petzl.com/us/outdoor/verticality/accessories/gloves/cordex) gloves sorta suck. If you buy a pair, buy the Cordex Plus (http://www.petzl.com/us/outdoor/verticality/accessories/gloves/cordex-plus) (medium-weight).

Now I've got another pair of goddamn fingerless gloves. Stupid fingertips wore out in 2 months of climbing, rappelling, etc.

If you really want to have "assault" gloves or whatever they're called, and have 'em warm (always a relative term), get some liner gloves to wear underneath them (assuming they'll fit underneath).

wonder if any members have some input also if they're from areas with some snowI haven't seen assault style gloves that are warm, but a lot of people use a thinsulate glove in leather a lot during the winter. It sure beats your single layer assault gloves. Also, if you want a liner, you need a glove that is big enough to have some airflow, because it sure as hell sucks if they are too tight. My experience is from Norway, where we have plenty of -Celsius and snow.

My experience with Oakley gloves has always been positive, well made durable gloves, but they've always seemed a bit over-priced.

When it comes to cold, I'm a little girl, so for snow and ice I wear Outdoor Research's Atli gloves, with a ibex micro wool base liner. I think the liner is rated at 400. OR also makes a pair of padded technical ice climbing gloves but I don't know if they are water proof.

Regardless of what glove you get I highly recommend a micro wool liner. They have gotten so thin and finely stitched over the last few years you can easily wear them w/o feeling losing dexterity. Just try and keep the wool away from velcro.

Hi there,

Can you guys please advise me on some gloves, I have a pair of nomex flight gloves and thinsulate liners for in early spring and autumn times, But I still need a pair of GOOD and warm wintergloves to use in Norway this winter, preferably a little water resistant. I do have mittens but its not that practical during vehicle operations with a map, binoculairs and a whole lot of buttons to press :P

What should I buy, I drive on a vehicle during FTX so the cold wind combined with rain or snow is freezing me.
