That would be a Denmark Madsen sub-machine gun. I don't know that they used those in SEA?

Actually the Madsen and the Swedish K were quite popular with SOG members. Stamped steel POSs yes, but they get the job done and work under almost all conditions. There were a lot of Madsen's that were floating around SEA because of the Dutch East Indies (which didn't last too long in the post-war enviorment), and they got picked up by various insurgent forces originally fighting the Japanese. I'm not exactly sure about the stories behind the Swedish Ks (Bofors/Carl Gustav M45s), but I've heard them mentioned one too many times for me to believe that its made up.

As for crappy French SMGs, while I've never heard of US forces using MAT-49s, apparently they served Viet-Cong units quite well, modified to fire 7.62x25mm TT.

Dennis G, that ID card real?

MACV-SOG was formed by Finn..

Larry Thorne..

;)

Link: http://www.taskforceomegainc.org/t375.html

While assigned to Headquarters, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam; Capt. Thorne was instrumental in establishing the standard operating procedures employed by the fledgling Studies and Observation Group, better known by its acronym "MACV-SOG."

(He had plenty experience on this kind of warfare, after all he was during ww2 in "long range patrol" which mission were about identical on those of MACV-SOG..)

Larry A. Thorne is the only American POW/MIA to fight communism under three flags - those of Finland, Germany and America.

RIP :(
