no it's not it...
the interest of the picture is that it has been edited from its original size. it looks all romantic and pretty the way national geographic edited it, but the original picture shows on the right, next to the plane, a pile of junk and other ww2 military waste that takes away all the charm...

i believe its in the magazine that u guys found, but i cannot seem to find any websites with the picture from INSIDE that magazine...

and i tried http://www.pacificwrecks.com but i can t seem to find it in it...

i also have no idea on waht island... i just know its in the pacific.

the plane is either a corsair or a japanese zero.

Can anyone tell me what type of plane this is?...

Looks like it has a P47 fuselage and Corsair engine and wings.

I can't find it anywhere.
Your best bet might be to go to a library and look through the old National Geographic mags and scan in the picture.

You could also try to find someone who has "The Complete National Geographic" collection on CD-ROM.

thanks for the help. its too late now. my younger brother needed to study a picture for college with hidden informations so i looked for this one for him. he s picking another one since we can t find that one, he s going to do the one with the israeli boy bleeding with a israeli border patrol behind, which had a bit of controversy bc people thought the boy was palestinian... anyway.

Thanks for the info! Never knew they made a Corsair with that type of canopy. I'm taking it that the birdcage model was an earlier version. Wonder how many birdcage models are still flying compared to the bubble type canopy.
