Strangly enough (along with 90% of the rest of the UK armed forces) no. I've never voted for Labour in my life.

So am I an ignorant liberal too? I wouldn't argue with me being ignorant relative to some, but not necessarily as a function of my political beliefs. About 45 % of my opinions are liberal, about 45% are conservative, and there's at least ten percent, if not more, that I abstain from speaking on because I simply haven't got a clue-and I'm a fairly opinionated person. I'll say this: Royal has earned my respect time and again on here. He presents his side very well and in a knowledgeable manner. He has been very respectful for the posts of his that I've seen. And he speaks from experience. Have a good one, and just some thoughts...

By averaging more than 50 ignorant posts a day, I think Sixgun Symphony has set a new record for not only quanity but also for lack of quality.

The Internet is great for sharing ideas; unfortunately, it is also open to idiots who can post numerous political rants. Sixgun is obviously on the extreme right wing fringe of political thought. There are others who post here who are equally as extreme on the left wing. Perhaps the rest of us can try and ignore both ends of the political spectrum and let the idiots battle it out between their two extremist viewpoints. Until then, all we can hope for is that Sixgun, at the rate he is going, will get tired of typing

A general observation from reading posts on this forum.

1) If you disagree with someones opinion, the next logical move is to personally attack the person. The opinion is not explored.

2) If you provide facts to buttress an argument (no matter how embarrassing or inconvienent), the source is attacked or totally ignored.

3) If you provide historical accounts of wars or incidents that are unfavorable to one nation, it is called 'hate" speech or "trolling".

Conclusion: There is alot of intolerance around the world for truth (nationalism) and civil discourse is dead.

A thought to add; I'm fairly wary of nearly anyone who believes a extreme view or believes in something entirely. They're threatening not necessarily as themselves, but because they're too easily used. I've found that there is little black and white in this world, and that most things-for me at least-even politics, are best in moderation. With the exception of a few arch criminals in history, I don't really dislike too many people at all, certainly no one on this message board. Even when I disagree with someone, I can still very readily respect that person. Take Trigger, or especially budanski (sorry to use you guys as examples p-) ), we disagree all the time. But I respect them. Have a good one, and as always, just some thoughts...

Don't you all know that if you don't blindly follow Pat Buchanan and a bunch of guys who blindly follow somebody who blindly follow someone else you are a liberal? Come on, get with the program. If you think for yourself you are a liberal. You need to just pick a side and ride along. It is much easier that way. Please. Let the guys who write the books do the thinking.

There is no Gun culture in the UK other than the Gangs or the criminal fraternity ,it is illegal to possess handguns here, but you're saying that there is no gun crime in the USA commited by LEGALY OWNWED weapons?

Actually, violent crime has gone down in every state of the union that has allowed citizens to carry concealed weapons. The states with the highest rates of violent crime are those that do not allow citizens to carry concealed weapons for self defense.

Show me the studies that support what you just said about gun ownership REDUCING crime, Sixgun. From what I can reason, it would be nearly impossible to conduct a comparitive study of that nature between different sovereign countries.

That said, I'm a firm believer in owning guns as long as you have respect for the power and responsibility that accompanies them.

About gun laws; well, it's almost no use making it illegal in the US now since there's already too many guns; your country is too 'rotten' on that part now. Up here in the Netherlands guns have always been illegal, and we have hardly any problems with gun crimes (mostly criminal liquidations, hey who gives a damn about that :P)

German_American
02-10-2004, 05:24 PM
Don't compare the Netherlands crime rate to the Americans many different factors involved. I feel 10times safer always having a loaded gun in my house then if I din't. Some asshole wants to come into my house and steal something I'll have no qualms about shooting him.

Durandal

Well damnit...

*deep breath*

A) Nice Post Tane.

B) Why do we have to discuss fireamr ownership as if this is a better than you argument? Everyone is both right and wrong. John Lott wrote an excellent book (More Guns, Less Crime) and the math is solid. However, making a blanket statement that all Gun Ownership reduces crime is falsehood. John Lott even makes this point. Conceal Carry is what reduces the crime and while it may work State-wide, he even admits their are cases where it does not at a more regional level.

C) Would everone stop being baited by Sixgun? Damn guys, I know we do not see eye to eye on a lot of things, but Sixgun is pulling your chains hardcore...feel his hate and ignorance and chill the hell out. :)
