Sources say relative of President Assad smuggled arms to 3 places

A relative of Syrian President Bashar Assad is hiding Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in three locations in Syria, according to intelligence sources cited by an exiled opposition party.
The weapons were smuggled in large wooden crates and barrels by Zu Alhema al-Shaleesh, known for moving arms into Iraq in violation of U.N. resolutions and for sending recruits to fight coalition forces, said the U.S.-based Reform Party of Syria.
The party, based in Potomac, Md., regards itself as a secular body comprised of Syrians who want to see the country embrace "real democratic and economic reforms."

Of course, they are an opposition party that would love for the US to destroy the current Baath party regime in Syria.
But remember that this Syrian regime has been a real PITA for decades. There are many other mid-eastern terrorist groups besides Al Qaida and this regime has supported many of them. It might be an opportunity to settle some old scores.

Ok just for the record. Let´s say that CIA ( ) goes ahead and starts
claiming that they have "documents" that indicate that Syria is a "serious
threat to US national security" and can "within 45 minutes launch several
ballistic missiles against Israel, Europe and USA".
What are you going to do about it? US doesn´t have the balls to attack.
Iraq wasn´t liked by anyone. Syrias proximity to Israel protects them
in the international community, and what ever Bush and the CIA-chief he
has appointed claims now, they have no credibility left. Would US attack
Syria alone, together with Israel without the support of the rest of the
world (of course some third world countries could always be bribed to
give their vote in UN)? No.
Nothing is going to happen anyway, so give it a break, please.

SE,
I do belive that Syrias ruling party is named Baath, but has nothing to do with Iraqi one..
What the problem? let the U.N enter syria...and give them to check those places.
Better then be bombed by the only superpower on erath.

Yup, Iraqi and syrian baath parties broke apart and actually had fighting against each other. They don't liek each other at all. Either way, Baath is useless, they stood for arab unity and one Ummah (islamic nation) and if you know anything about the arab street, besides the anti israeli feelings, getting arabs to agree on anything is like telling people at mecca to covert to judaism.

Er.......he destroyed them and the UN destroyed the remainder, well thats the version the free world has been told there is probably no need to go galloping around the middle east looking for them, Iraqi WMD's of any quantity do not exist its official.
Get over it.

Same as the evidence of a 45 min launch capability that was a so called immediate threat to the US and UK.............a figments of some bored guys mind! ;)

That's what irks me. If they didn't exist - were we just supposed to take their word on it ?!?
Has 'someone' definitively declared that WMDs never existed either during or after the time time USCOM was kicked out of Iraq....

have you ever considered that Iraq's declaration of banned weapons post 91 was just a ruse to put off potential Invaders such as Iran, after having his military machine smashed in GW1?
They offered documents yes,but did they ever actually show this,in pictures or in a physical form other than on paper, did anyone ever get to see if Saddam was just typically showing brinkmanship,or indeed there were toones and tonnes of the stuff?
See what gets me is that this was a man who did not think twice about using it in the past, and here he was ,supposedly armed with better more deadlier stuff, about to be invaded ,knowing that his Regime is at an end and he decides not to use it......why?
What was different?

well, UN inspectors in 1998 had accounted for the weapons supplies which are now not being found in Iraq. that's the discrepancy. where did they go.

I think we shoudlnt take it with much seriousness until US and allied intelligence services can confirm what the rebel group said, because they surely have an agenda of their own. Dont get me wrong, i think that Syria is perhaps the greatest threat to national security and stability in the middle east. If i was president i would have dealt with Syria before iraq, but thats just me. I think that Syria's open support to Al Queda, Hamas and Islamic Jihad surely posed a more iminent threat to the US than Iraq, though over time, Iraq surely posed the greatest threat...like 5 years from now.

A good point has been raised with this comment. Stuff we knew for a fact was there in 1998-or even as late as 2001, things we tagged and marked the positions of, have now vanished from the face of the earth. The number of men and vehicles needed to move that much equipment would be many, but this would explain the satellite images of 30 some vehicles lined up at a chemical plant north of Baghdad in Feb 2003.

So with that brilliant piece of intel, the US decided that it was far safer to allow them to be transported to another rogue State?
See during the 80's when the US were removing their Nukes from Greenham Common there were loads of lorries involved, and that also included decoys,a 30 lorry convoy don't mean jack ****.......unless it glows in the dark, without the lights on! ;)
You want an interesting tidbit 5 of my mates all from the same Company, all deployed to Greenham Common at the same time, all developed testicular cancer of which 2 died :(

There are several posibilities here and all are logical. I think the whole thing is very weird and I hope we find out what happened. To say you know for sure where they are is just stupid. The possibilities are:
a) Still in Iraq hidden very well. Saddam was a master at this and was problem the most intelligetn person about hiding things tna any man to ever walk the earth
b)They are in Syria or Iran. People say they have seen SAT images of trucks outside chemicaol plants so on and so forth. Definatly a possibility.
c)They were never there or Saddam destroyed them. The only evidence to support this claim is that we haven't found anything. If Saddam destroyed the Weapons we would find evidence of that. The UN knows for fact he had them up until 2001. After that there was no trace of them. If you cant prove they were destroyed, than you can't prove that they are gone. Right now we have just as much Reason to believe Bush as we do John Kerry.
