I've just watched "Ying xiong"(Hero):
I'm not fan of martial-art movies, I would say that I'm antyfan esspecialy after watching "Crouching tiger and Hidden Dragon". But this movie has big visuall charm and very good story sic. .
Autumnal scene of falling leaves.

Idea of storytelling with three variants of the same story is briliant esspecialy when commpared to hoaxed "Memento" which was very poor variation about "Pulp Fiction" and "Fight Club".
Only one thing disturbed me...
Strong pararell to current state of China and it's actions against their people. Movie passes strong message that tyrany and unity of thought is worth more than human lives and validates killing people who disagre with common idea, validates harming people for the uber good. Esspecially strong messege has last scene involving title Hero.

Then you can call Pearl Harbour and other Hollywood war movies American propaganda. It's just a movie, so relax and enjoy it :)

I'm glad some movies, view things from other perspectives and bring other messages.

I'll have to see the movie myself and see what I think. It's got both Jet Li and Zhang Ziyi, right? Jet Li is cool and Zhang Ziyi is a HOTTIE...

Just to counter-balance, a guy I know recently characterized Boondocks Saints as "fascist propaganda." He took major offense at the "killing of sinners in God's name" stuff. I just thought it was a good mafia flick...

No doubt. That is mighty big stretch.

Yes and No..Hero was stupid in the way every martial art film is, but this is fault of the convention. Fight seqentions are ver similiar to those from "Hidden dragon..", but like I said I'm not fan of mart arts so I didn't bothered with all that pseudo phylospohy and braking law of physics ****..
