I've been considering learning Arab for awhile now, the problem is, I'm currently trying to learn Japanese and I don't want to try to learn 2 languages at once.

Anyone have experience with Arab? Is it difficult?

If it helps, career wise im looking forward to military/intel community work. Where I hear Arab is a big plus.

I've never studied but i am pretty sure it is difficult to learn. Just learn Spanish.

Spanish is boring. Too many people know it for my liking.

I learned Arabic at DLI and I've talked about it on this site ad naseum. If you wanna find out more details, do a search. As for learning two languages at once, I don't recommend it. You'll only confuse yourself, plus you'll be denying yourself the time to get good at one, you'll simply be "just ok" at both. Concentrate on one at a time.

Would be useful if you called it Arabic, not Arab....An Arab is someone who speaks Arabic.

And it depends, Modern Standard Arabic might be worthwhile to start learning. Bear in mind though that there is a lot of variation in dialects throughout the middle east. And if you are considering Afghanistan, then you'd have to learn Dari or Farsi or Pashtun or something like that.

Simply for the sake of trying to get into Intel or similar, learning Arabic isn't really too relevant. They are probably looking for someone who who has done a degree in Arabic or middle eastern studies. Just learning the language might not be enough, although it would be useful if you were ever deployed to the middle east in any role.
