One of the greatest movies about Chechen war.
If you haven't seen it, try to get it.
Its called VOINA (WAR)
http://www.rbcmp3.com/store/assets/product_images/imgs/front/29844.jpg

Has great footage, and weapons.
Here are some shots I captured today.

A British couple is kidnapped by the Chechens for a ransom of a million pounds - a ransom that nobody is able to pay. A Russian soldier is also a prisoner of Chechens but he ain't worth a dime. So the Briton and the Russian are let go - the former is told to come up with the ransom while his girlfriend stays with Chechens, the latter is sent with a message to hurry up the exchange of a Russian officer for the imprisoned brother of the Chechen warlord. Naturally, there is not enough money to buy back the British girl and no will on the part of Russians to exchange or rescue the Russian officer - so these two who were let go get back to Chechnya on their own accord to settle the affair in the Brat-2 style. With even bigger guns. Those who expect another art-house movie like Of Freaks and Men will be very dissapointed. This movie is as one-dimensional as they come: Chechens are evil, Russians are corrupt, Westerners and the press are hypocritical, Russian army is incompetent, so it is up to our hero armed only with a shotgun to take upon himself the Chechen war (vojna). At least there is an improvement to the Brat-2 movie - he doesn't have to make a shotgun from a waterpipe and two rolls of duct tape.

He , i had this movie in my house , wached it 20 times probably ... And then taped "Black Hock Down" over it . The British fellow is so dumb , the VDV guy smokes to much , and Sergey Bodrov is better actor in "Brother" movies . But , the movie is nice , more or less . The opening song is kick ass .

I saw that movie at the 2002 Montreal Film Festival. It was great, good acting, very nice photography. It is more of an action movie than historical movie, although the psychological aspect is very well rendered.
It was almost all Russian (except the Brit guy), but there were subtitles.
The opening scene was brutal! Sickening...

I also had the chance to meet the director Alexei Balabanov afterward, as well as the Brit actor (Ian something, can't remember) and Alexei Chadov, the other main actor, as they were meeting the press. Balabanov surprised me when he explained his opinion on the war, to say the least. The British actor also stressed the fact that the movie was shot very close to the actual combat zones, think it was in Daghestan (there was some fighting there not 10 years ago), but I'm not sure. That was quite freaky apparently, with armed groups nearby, you don't want them mistaking your actors and filmcrew for soldiers!

I tried to get the DVD, but online I could only find the Region 5 (CIS) version at places like Ozon.ru, so my DVD player won't read it (I'm Region 1) and the movie is not being distributed in North America AFAIK. I would kill to get the soundtrack CD, the score from Viacheslav Butusov and Deadushki(sp?) was awesome. If anybody hears about Region 1 DVD of it, please post about it. I tried to contact the publisher, CTB Films, but they couldn't help me.

I have this movie on my com.... Anyway, it is a awesome movie. By the way, I feel sorry for that female English hostage. She looks rather like a Jew in a concentration camp. The best part of the movie is when the group starts to attack the terrorists' camp.

Spetsnaz series are good if you are under 18, after that it becomes dumb and removed from reality :)

Yes , indeed Marsh Brosok is to much unreal movie . Opening scene - ambush on convoy is pretty nice (effects are ****) . Chistilishe was the best movie i ever saw about war . I offered it to our Co , as a part of educational movies packages (idea that was , to show soldiers movies like Private Ryan and Stuff) , but idea was cancelled ...

He and his friend escaping the captivity , but his friend is getting blown up . The fighter is revenging , when caching the head of the Chechen group in operation , and apparantly this Head of the group was former Major in Soviet army , fighting in Afganistan . And so on and so on ...

Hey, what is the name of that movie, probably from about 80's, I think about VDV guys. It's kinda like they are participating in a major training excersise against other units, and it gets very serious. I'm talking about major strategic moves, people kicking some serious ass, interrogation. I think the story follows one team in VDV with some Lt. It was a good movie, unfortunately can't remember any details, it's been about 8-10 years
Oh, and I think that some people were even killed during that "excersise"
