Imho, the Su-27 and its variants have the lines of italian race cars. I've heard, some people were wondering how this fighter could've been designed in Russia, instead of somewhere in Italy, by Pininfarina.

It fared so badly against cheap and simple MiGs in Vietnam so i think the Yankees would love to blame it on French so lets give them that.. hssss. ;)
Unlike that superduper American made Mirage III that kicked lots of MiG-ass in same time period.. ;)

I wouldn't call a 3:1 (Three MiGs for every one Phantom) faring badly. And this was before the US Navy gave birth to Naval Fighter Weapons School. Or "Top Gun."

F 4s are built by McDonald Douglas I believe and they are American made planes I dont know if they licensed any other countrys to build them http://www.faqs.org/docs/air/avf4.html Phantom had been in active U.S. military service since it was first delivered to the Navy in 1960. It joined the services of both the Air Force and Marines in 1962. It had served in both Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm. It had become known as the "world's leading distributor of MiG parts" due to its kill record and had demolished the Iraqi air defense system from http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/f4/last.htm

Get your facts straight.
All in All MiG-21 to F-4 its 2:1 not to mention that MiGs shot down numerous attack aircraft and also many of the kills you officially credit to AAA or SAMs were actually lost to MiGs and many of those credited to AAA in turn to SAMs, US lost several thousand fixed wind aircraft downed or badly damaged in Vietnam.
MiG-21s alone shot down 103 F-4 and lost 54 of their own (1966 to 1972), thats not in favor of americans but nearly 2:1 for Vietnamese.
Im not the one that need to get anything straight, its you kid.

http://www.acepilots.com/vietnam/viet_aces.html
You might be unaware of this but the US military doesnt keep its pilots in theatre for duration. In other words total kills for US pilots are spread amongst many pilots who rotate in and out of Vietnam and return stateside to instruct new pilots whereas the Vietnamese depend on a handful of pilots to account for the majority of the kills. In any event its worth pointing out that the NVAF never achieved air dominance the way the USAF and USN did so the war was pretty much a tactical and strategic victory in terms of air power to the yanks

Not so, many U.S jets fell victim to NVAF fighters throughout the war, especially fighter bombers like F-105. Majority of experienced U.S pilots stayed several tours of duty and sometimes without any say in it.
It is true that U.S had illusion like air dominance over Vietnam and the only reason is it's because of the # of aircraft they deployed to the theater. Without a doubt if NVAF enjoyed the #'s U.S did they for sure would have devastated U.S air forces over that region to the point of no recovery.

De gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum. If that's his choice it's ok for me though...and the Ruskies are making beautiful planes, especially from the Mig-29 and Su-27 lines. And I also miss F-14 in this gallery, a great plane for me.

Phantom F 4 is not a french made plane
Galileo is 100% correct. The F4 Phantom was never even used by the French, and was certainly NEVER EVER produced there. I think the confusion has derived from the fact that the Vought F-4U Corsair was used by the French in Indo-China; though as far as I know it was never produced by the French either, though I could be wrong on that last point, as they may have built some under-license, from kits in the late 40s.

My favorites, allthough I am not an aircraft fan.
First of all, raptor looks like ****. I hate that plane for its looks, and for its performance nevertheless. But lets not take that here..
10 - Warthog. allthough oldfashioned, it looks like a classic sportscar.
9 - Mig-21. looks great
8 - F-16. not a bad look.
7 - Tiger (EF). nice way of continuing delta wing scheme
6 - Su-34 - big and beautiful
5 - Su-27 family (33, 37 etc) - legend
4 - Tu-160 - love the look and paintjobs
3 - Mig-31 - heh looks cool
2 - Berkut (S-37) - black beauty!!
and number 1..

It is ironic that you posted a website describing in good details the differential of VPAF's aces to their U.S.'s counterparts and yet spouted something afterward which by the very source you provided amounted to nothing but typical rhetorics.
American pilots rotated home after 100 combat sorties with very few exceptions that requested for a second tour of duty. "F-105 formations used to fly every day at the same time in the same flight paths and used the same callsigns over and over again," first thing, the "Thud" is not most maneuverable tin can around and it is not hard getting kills if your opponents are repetitive.
"Finally, the overwhelming US numerical superiority meant that, from the point of view of the Vietnamese pilots, the aerial battlefield was a "target rich environment." For the American airmen Vietnam was a "target poor environment." The Americans could not find enough enemy aircraft to pile up large scores simply because there weren't that many MiGs around; the VPAF never had more than 200 combat aircraft."
Having more aces mean little in term of air dominance in Viet Nam. It was no "illusion" on the U.S. part, if the VPAF has the same numerical standard, that in turn would have meant a "targe rich environment" for the American airmen. As Operation "Bolo" proved, it would be a 7:0 ratio for the F-4 magnify several times. Eventually, with the implementation of "Top Gun" and the F-4E Vulcan-equipped, whatever edge the North had would have been neutralize.
