Why didn't Saddam just abide by International Law if he had no WMD? Why the cat and mouse game since 1998?

They asked him to make a report that proves he has no WMD and he did. He allowed inspectors in but no one believed them. What was he supposed to do?

I think that if states around Iraq knew he didn't have it they would not fear Sadam as much and who knows maybe another war in the region. By keeping Iran and Israel guessing/assuming/thinking he sill possed stock piles of the stuff he would be safe in power. He basically used it as a threat to any that wanted to mess with him. However, it all depends on if you believe whether he had/has WMDs since 91.

Every time Saddam let the weapons inspectors into Iraq, they never cooperated, how many times did Iraq kick the weapons inspectors out? In 1998 Bill Clinton and his adminastration sure were convinced that Iraq had wmd.

Erh. I guess you are too young to actually remember this, but CIA had
planted their agents among the UN-inspectors, thatsīs why they were kicked
out. Not even US has denied that, they just donīt say it nowadays.
And as One said, the Iraqis said what had to be said in 12.000 pages of
documents, but they were not believed. Or well, they probably were, but
since Bush wanted a war, I guess he just ignored the facts.

Some didn't wanted the war and ignore the facts too...
As a matter of pointing of finger...the Imperialistic Yanks had a hard time proving Saddam has WMD...and Saddam had a hard time proving he didn't have any...Then again, you got your typical contradiction, people bitching about how the "Great Satan USA" gave Saddam WMD a while back and the 3.9 tons of deadly VX nerve gas, 8,500 liters of anthrax, 550 artillery shells filled with mustard gas, and few other goodies Saddam confessed to, prior to the UN inspectors being kicked out in 1998 then going on to blah...blah...blah about how he doesn't have WMD...the game goes on, everybody is steadfast in their ideology, the debate is but a tedious, painful back-and-forth...

The fact that we didn't find the WMD don't tell us that they don't exist....

but

Why would we do this if we knew there were no wmd? Why go through all the trouble, we truly believed there were wmd in Iraq. Even though its not Presidents Bushs fault, but he being our leader the **** would fall back on him. We did the right thing, we will rebuil Iraq and Afghanistan and it will take sometime, but we are committed to those 2 countries.

Do you not mean abide by UN resoloutions?
If so then I could ask the same about another ME country who also does not abide by these resoloutions either....and nothing happens to them! ;)

Why isn't anyone happy for the people of iraq??
Why didn't Saddam just abide by International Law if he had no WMD? Why the cat and mouse game since 1998?
he didn't want to lose face and make Iraq look like a weak state to his neighbours. It's a question of honour, there's no honour in being pushed around even by the world's only superpower. Everyone has a right to national pride.
