Troy MRF is a well thoughtout design that clamp to the barrel nuit of your existing rifle. so installation is very easy as you cut off the detla ring and you are good to go. the design also feature the continous rail which is index with your flat top so you don't have a gap like the other FF rails. construction is solid and very well crafted.
price is pretty good too.

IMO i'd go with a S.I.R or a Surefire.

Surefire is a great rail but it is not free float and the top rail are lower then the receiver rail...
SIR are heavy, too many parts, rail on rail application which screws up all your mounting solutions...SIR was good for the time but it quickly fall out of favorite and replaced by better design rail system coming on line...like the Troy MRF.

ok..if those 2 options didn't work..(and I had the money) I'd use the LMT MRP setup..

Thanks SMGLee, I put a call into Troy this morning to find out if their MRF-R would clear my carbine gas system on my Dissipator, reason being, I tried the Surefire M82 and it does not work. So I decided to go with a free float system instead.
Something I picked up on is that Troy and Samson are pretty much the same thing but one is mroe expensive than the other?
Troy rail systems for AR15/M16 are fine, but stay away from their M14 stock/rail system... it is garbage.

Are you confusing their M14 SOPMOD system with the Sage EBR stock??
Mike Rock designed the Troy system and Sage basically rip the design and created the EBR stock which is heavy and bulky.
some of the initial teething problem faced with the Troy M14 design have been resolved.
I personally like the McMillian M14 stock.

I'm not sue if it was an early Troy M14 stock or not, I just never ordered one again after my initial experience. Troy was very good about refunding the money though. I had to retrofit a couple M14s with privately purchased EBR stocks for some customers who have the option of an M14 but are not issued with anything other than the old style wood stock. Troy's were ordered as Sage were not available at the time. From the start, I observed poor fit to receiver requiring modification, poor welds and cheesy buttstock attachment and picatinny rails that looked as though the were ordered from Brownells and were screwed on (some of the allem screws were even stripped out) instead of integrally machined into the stock. The side rails weren't even strait. So I returned them. Sage EBR stocks became available, which is what the local NavSpecWar guys are issued if they are lucky enough to get one, and installed. Fit and finish were perfect as were ergonomics and usability.
If Mike Rock designed the Troy system and Sage ripped him off, they really improved his design in the process. Hopefully his product has improved.

Troy has improved the stock most likely since you had it last... I am sorry to hear your experience with Troy, I am glad they took care of you.
As far as the Sage stock, every operator I spoke to hate the EBR, it is too heavy. the system looks awesome but the weight are just too much to deal with.
Geezah,
The Troy and Samson is a ClusterF&*k...Samson used to be the sub contractor machining the parts for Troy... some issue cause the break up and Samson came out with the design under their name. i am not going to get into this but I sell Troy Rails..
