3rd Ranger TRAINING BN?

I have a guy who claimed to graduate from 3rd Ranger Training Battalion/75 A Company class 10-80. It is my knowledge that there never was a 3rd Ranger Training Battalion, or did it exist since there was no 3rd Ranger BN in 1980 so all the training BN's had their numbers moved up? Any info greatly appreciated, I think I got a wannabe...

Well, I've never heard of it, but I'm in No way a BTDT. There is a 4th Training Battalion, which are the guys who handle the training for the 'Benning Phase' of Ranger school. Unless you confirm there wasn't a 3rd Training Battalion, I would advice possibly heading over to Socnet and do a ID check. I'm sure someone over there would be able to do that for ya.

4th RTB-Benning Phase
5th RTB-Mountain Phase
6th RTB-Florida Phase
7th RTB-Desert Phase (discontinued, early 90's)

There is no 3rd RTB. There is a 3rd Ranger Batalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment. It is possible that this person has made up a "little story" and confused some of his facts.

3/75th infantry, airborne rangers is an active unit. the 7th regt has three active, deployable battalions, 1st 2nd and 3rd. the unit operates a separate training unit anyone who said thay they were inthe 3rd training bn is full of it. the setup i explained above has been in effect for almost 20 years. 1st and 2nd bn activated in 1974, 3rd was added in 1984 along with a headquarters company, and the new training brigade, which is divided up into 3 bn's to coincide the three phases of ranger school 4th trng runs phase one, and so on.3rd bn is and has always been an active combat unit.

Thanks a lot guys, when I heard him say 3rd Training BN I was positive the clown was full of ****, but not being a Batt boy, I was just wanted to check in with people who know what I was just speculating on. One last question, I hear BTDT tossed around a lot, what is that?
