I seem to remember previous American administrations praising Al Jazeera for being a beacon of democratic values in the Middle East (prior to OBL sending them his unsolicited video tapes of course).

Apparently if you don't unquestioningly follow the American party line at all times you're no longer promoting democratic values. I remember reading the article about the meeting with Bin Alshibh when it was published in the Sunday Times (UK) in September 2002. IIRC it wasn't exactly complimentary about AQ or Bin Alshibh in particular and tracking of the reporters movements may well have led to the eventual arrest of Bin Alshibh so why are you bitching about it?

Agreed. Al Jazeera is a circle jerk session for Arab pride, I'm sorry to say But it is also a bastion of free speech in a region sorely lacking. But if Al Jazeera is guilty of fanning resistance to Americans occupation of Iraq by presenting and Arab perspective, then Fox is equally guilty of fuelling the stampede toward war in Iraq by bandying about the Bush Administration's phoney intel and whipping up public support.
