COMBINED FORCES COMMAND-AFGHANISTAN RELEASE
KABUL, Afghanistan -- In coordination with the Islamic Transitional Government of Afghanistan, Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan continues to train the Afghan National Army, provide civil affairs support, and disrupt, deny, and destroy terrorist and anti-ITGA forces in order to establish a stable and secure Afghanistan.
On Monday, coalition forces found one weapons cache northeast of Gardez and another west of Kandahar. Tuesday, we located two more caches, one in the vicinity of Khowst and the other north of Qalat. Even though this is the winter season, we have found, and been directed to, an increasing number of caches, thus stopping these weapons and ammunitions from being used against the Afghan people.
Voter registration continues throughout the country. Currently there are 796,000 voters registered including 176,000 are women. This represents an enormous step towards summer elections.
On Monday, in Jalalabad, the Jalalabad Provincial Reconstruct conducted the grand opening of the Sultan Pur girls' school. Also on Monday, the Parwan Provincial Reconstruction Team distributed medical supplies and blankets to the Kapisa Provincial Hospital and on Tuesday the same team distributed school supplies and clothing to the Central Afghanistan Orphanage.
