Al-Maliki died in custody, according to BBC TV an autopsy showed that he had been beaten or totured.

Shortly before the QLR had lost an officer murdered when the ambulance he was in was targeted by an improvised off-route mine. That may have led troops to over react (I'm not excusing them BTW) in much the same way that the US MP's who were recently discharged did.

US and UK forces have always been good (at least in the last 200 years or so) at treating PW's, but I'm afraid we now need to be whiter than white. No excuses for over reacting.
