Which is the best location for doors on an apc/icv.
Btr- through sides and top
bmp1,2- through back.
bmp3- combination of back and top.
Are there any specific advantages for putting doors on the side like on Btr.
or on the back/top on bmp3. troops have to get out by walking on the engine. Why cant they put it on the front like western designs.?

I am in total accord.I think it would result in better space utilisation if the hull MG gunner positions were deleted, the driver moved front left and the engine front right like in the new chinese IFV (the one with the BMP-3M like turret). The troop compartment would thus be made bigger and more comfortable and a ramp added. Steve Zaloga suggests in his BMP book (Osprey publications) that the configuration of the BMP-3 was selected for CG reasons. As it is the BMP-3 has a lot of dead space over the engine that cannot be used without blocking troop entry/exit...

This is a platoon or company leader vehicle, it dosnt haver the bow MG
Well the idea of those machine guns is that all the squad can fire from inside the vehicle. Can be proved a life saver in an ambush.
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/1012/bmp3001rb0hr.gif
Also I prefer little unpractical doors in exchange for the low profile. The fighting squad is not going to be disembarked when under enemy fire. It will be an unhealthy habit.

which is the best postion for apc/icv doors. on the sides like btr 80, on the back, on the top like btr 60, combination of back and top like bmp3. which is the best for getting in/out during combat.
During Arab Israeli wars when at first, bmp was usedthe troops did not disembark and the vehicles were destroyed in large numbers. Even Soviets changed their tactics after that.
With large numbers of ATGW in the battlefield is it practical to fight from inside of an ICV during an ambush?

The best position is at the back. BMP3 made a tradeoff to keep the silhouette of the vehicle low (a successful one I think). Best imo is to disembark your troops when you are out of the line of sight of enemy fire and in this case the arrangement of the doors is not much of a problem.
About your second question. When you are caught in an ambush the best action IMO is to get out as quickly as possible firing with whatever you have available and not to disembark and fight there. This must be your last solution. Same when you spot an ATGM coming your way. Start shooting at the operator’s position and move behind the closest obstacle as quickly as possible firing whatever smoke grenades you have available. You don’t want to stand still trying to disembark your infantry at these moments.

Actualy they are not fixed. They have a small cone of fire.
The cone is something like 35 degrees wide and 20 degrees in elevation. So both they cover the front 60 degrees (1/3) of the frontal arc. The sides are cover by the rest of the infantry team. There must be also one firing port-hole in the back.
BMP3 with French thermals is on top of my list of successful IFVs. You have a wide choice of weapons to use. Engage covered infantry with 100mm HE rounds, engage uncovered infantry or enemy’s IFVs with 30mm rounds. Engage close infantry with PKT machine guns, engage tanks and IFVs at long ranges with laser guided missile fired from the 100mm gun. You have a great flexibility.

Those fixed machineguns point forward, in ambushes the enemy usually attacks from the sides.
A tracked vehicle can turn on the spot. By turning one way with the vechile body and turning the turret the other way you can point a 30 cal MG plus a 100mm rifled gun plus a 30mm cannon to one side and either two 30 cal MGs or two 30mm grenade launchers (whichever weapon is fitted) the other way. All weapons are aimed by individual gunners with their own sights. Each bow gunner has a fiberoptic sight and can actually see what he is shooting at rather than spraying the foliage using tracer as a guide.
More likely if you are going the aggressive route you'd turn one way and the next vehicle in the convoy would turn the other way and blast the crap out of any muzzle flashes you can see with everything you have got. Adding two aimed weapons per vehicle sounds pretty good to me. restricted angles of fire sure, but less exposed than a tank loaders MG.
The rear entry setup is a bit crap, but considering the options I can't really criticise it. With both the BMP-1 and BMP-2 they had the engine at the front of the vehicle so it is not like they have never tried such a layout.
The problem is that while the engine is quite heavy is is not actually a great subsitute for real armour as it has fuel and oil in it and is likely to burn if hit.
If you fit it in the front then you have to put the turret at the extreme rear to balance it, which screws up your access anyway.
Leaving it in the front anyway will have the vehicle hard to drive and it will create huge problems when swimming.
You can put the engine in the middle, which means you either put the turret at the extreme rear again or the extreme front... the former screws exit and entry, the latter means you have a limited sized turret because the driver has to sit next to the turret.. there is no room for him in the turret.
Having the engine at the rear, the turret in the middle frees up the front for much heavier armour modules.
Space wise it creates room for three crew, but weight wise they are actually irrelevant to the balancing as like the troops in the rear they are not that heavy compared to the weight of the vehicle, and of course they are not always present, especially in the various different models.
Given the choice of the current exit arrangements they are exposed for perhaps half a second longer than if they had a ramp. The turret gives them some cover. If they were being fired upon they are certainly better off than if they deployed over the sides, but then deploying under fire is never a good idea anyway.
Regarding the unusual firepower, after years of experience with a 73mm gun despite all its shortcomings they found that HE firepower was useful.
The BMP-2 showed them that autocannons are very useful too, but rather than BMP-2s replacing BMP-1s they tended to operate them together.
They would not fire a 73mm round at something a 30mm round could defeat more easily or vice versa and the rounds are different enough to avoid duplication of roles so having both a 100mm rifled gun and a 30mm autocannon made a lot of sense.
Ie a helo target would be readily engaged with the 30mm cannon whereas you'd be wasting your time with the 73mm gun. Equally a heavy pill box or armoured vehicle like an M60 is better engaged with a heavier round than a 30mm round. The 73mm round could penetrate an M60 without extra armour or ERA from the front from any range it could hit it. With the new 30mm APDS rounds you could probably damage an M60 from the side or rear but could only hope to cause superficial damage from the front.
Just like the SA-13 short range surface to air missile system based on the MT-LB artillery tractor operated and complimented the ZSU-23-4 Shilka and the replacement for both systems was a single vehicle that carried both missiles and guns called Tunguska so that instead of two vehicles with expensive radar search and tracking systems and electro optics systems you had one vehicle with both missiles and guns to combine the roles.
BMP-3 is a similar solution. More expensive optics and computer fire control systems.
Perhaps the future might be BMP-3 with some troops and heavy firepower plus BTR-Ts with troops and heavy armour operating further forward supported by the BMP-3s, with the BMPs with the expensive stuff like thermal sights and laser guided missiles, while the BTR-T built from the thousands of old T-55s make up the cheaper troop carrier role.

Do you have pictures of TNP3VE01 reticle (BMP-3 sight for bow machinegunners)?
