Hi

I am a 17 year old guy turning 18 rather soon. I currently live in Sweden but i am American. I feel that it is my patriotic duty to serve my country in the best of my abilities both by heart, mind, body and spirit. That is why I wish to Join the RANGERS the day i turn 18.

What im a bit worried about is their requirements for a recruit. Do you guys think a person with a BMI of 20 (im 182cm, 67kg but "fit" or "muscular" ) would be accepted?

The reason i ask this of you guys is that it would be horrible to fly half way round the world (terminating my studies in Sweden) and then not getting accepted into the RANGERS. I feel that i have the heart the mind and will to be a RANGER but do i have the minimum requirements in body and physic.

Thank you all in advance
God bless America

CBK

(please note any spelling errors are because i am tired :D )

From what I understand from my friends that have gone through the other branches, is that when you first join, you're assessed and if you're found to be too fat or not able to do certain lifting exercises, they put you through an extra 6-8 week course that helps to build strength and lose weight if you need it. I'd call the recruitment center, but I think they're always willing to take new people that have the mind to do it.

CBK,
your best bet is to talk with a recruiter. I'm pretty sure when you enlist you can specify that you want to be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment in your contract. Which would mean you would go through basic training, AIT, Airborne school, than RIP(ranger indoctrination something, my Memory lapses). Provided you got through all of that you would then be in one of the Ranger battalions of the 75th Regiment. Ranger School is another story.

As far as being "heavy" I dont think there are any weight limites as long as you can pass the PT tests. WHich you probably cant if your a fat body. By the time you get through go from basic through airborne you probably wont be a fatbody.

All of the above is from memory from 14 years ago so somethings may have changed. I never went through RIP but was in Airborne school with some who were going. I'm pretty sure they had enlisted with Ranger Battalion in their contracts. Again, the best thing to do is talk with a recruiter and have everything you want in writing before you sign.

If you want to be Infantry make sure your MOS is 11B. I was a 31C when I first enlisted. The recruiter acted like I would get to do the same things as the Infantry which was true but without the Blue cord your really not infantry and no one will let you forget it. Luckily I was able to change my MOS later.
I guess the point of my rambling is to GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Dont take a recruiters word for anything. research, know what you want and have it in the contract before you sign.

If you want to be a Ranger, you'll attend infantry basic training. Upon completion you'll attend airborne training. If you complete both of those you'll go to RIP or the Ranger Indoctrination Program. This is designed to weed out the bad asses from the rest. If you finish this you'll be assigned to a battalion. I hope ya like doing pushups b/c you'll be doing alot of those. Good luck. "Rangers lead the way"
