Looks absolutely f*cking incredible. The player models alone look about 1000% better than those in OFP.

If there's ever a game that's worth spending £££s on upgrades just to run, that would be it. Let's face it, you'll need a super computer to run what they promise on the website. I wonder if they're going to improve the AI to handle combat in FIBUA better?

Nope. This is for "Game2". ArmA will be set to the present. But in ArmA will be North vs. South conflict too.

Kieron Gillen from PC Gamer, the journalist following the events surrounding the future Bohemia Interactive Studios game Armed Assault, has written a scoop on the game in January 2006's edition of the magazine. Here are the best bits:

The engine (and hopefully the collision detection) will be more efficient and hence less ****e to crashing and more dynamic

The draw distance will be quadrupled

Longer grass

Denser foliage

[Already known] Original Operation Flashpoint campaigns will be included, but updated, and new missions will be made to harness new features in engine

The storyline will follow a US Peacekeeping Soldier in a North/South-Korea-type conflict

Story told from new perspective - non-linear

Bohemia Interactive are pushing the engine as far as it will go to create complex and dynamic towns and cities

I used to work for Codemasters, the publishers of Op Flashpoint, and when i was in the canteen for the first time, i saw this geeky looking dude who looked familiar. After a while i realised it was his face that was used a lot for the rendering of the soldiers, ugly with big glasses. Total nerd.

I wonder if I'll be able to get a good look during the E3 show in Los Angeles next month.

I hope the game runs better in CQB type battles, that was my only ( and very minor ) complaint about OFP.

That and my sounds craps out using the ECP addon :bash:

Looks like they still haven't got those walk/run/stand animations fixed yet from those screenshots. They look like they are using the OFP anims still. They are horrible. They need to take a look at the anims in BF2, now they are good !!

Looks fantastic graphically though, looking forward to playing it.

(generally speaking) more memory, more graphics power, or more CPU ?

with lots of objects I suppose memory (?) but should it be on the gfx card or main board... ?

Don't worry. If Placebo said it (BIS Community manager) then it must be true :-) It was also confirmed in Press Release from December :-)

And content of this new movie is pretty old so today may the game look much better.

I think most important thing for old OFP is memory so for ArmA it should be too.

Mostly game engine limitations on the number of gunners and weapon types on vehicle classes. IE, no tank commander's weapon when you're turned out, no larger guns on wheeled vehicles, one gunner per helicopter. The cqb is annoying too, but thats mostly because the soldier moves so wierd, dunno what it is. I love the realism as far as moving and shooting, its just that when you move around it doesn't feel natural at all.

Because I saw pics of woodland and desert camos.From what I remember, the entire campaign from the original OFP will be included with Armed Assault, so you should have Everon, Malden, and Kolgujev. Not sure if the Resistance campaign will be included though, in which case you'd also get Nogova. There'll also be a new, modern-day campaign taking place on an island divided into North/South, similar to Korea.

I love OPF, so not being a prick.. but...

1. Clipping issues, especially in buildings
2. Inside buildings could be more complicated
3. Destroyed buildings and tanks folding like cardboard boxes :bash:
4. Borked bullet ballistics ie 500m headshot with a mp5sd *
5. Slip and slide tanks
6. Gun / cannon issues as mentioned before. Ie cannot program guns / ammo to a high degree of spec like other games.

the main ones that come to mind.


I would say the ability to program guns and ammo is one of the biggest.

I would say the ability to program guns and ammo is one of the biggest.

I read in a magazine that clipping and such has been resolved, and with the new physics the buildings can be shot to pieces, dunno how tanks will be destroyed but one would hope that the dont crumble.

Some of the islands in OFP are based on real ones. I won't be surprised if Sahrani is real too.

I guess after they released Armed Assault trailer they realized people needed better graphics so then they started PR campaign with new improved pics.

Who knows but my guess is that release will happen in Summer, June.

BIS never released trailer. Actually these videos aren't official and they aren't trailers. One of the video was released by czech PC games magazine and one by some russian magazine. The first one is from November (or older) by the way, thats why it has worse graphic.

yeah, my bad..those were gameplay video...and the one from russian magazine is pretty fresh one although BIS deny that...it's after that video was released we got so many new screens with improved graphics coming in.

Yeah and bullet kinetic energy!! woot :D And placebo said that the Sahrani island has 400km. Not the whole map.. now I'm really confused :D

I really hope they would improve plane handling in Arma. Thats why I loved BF2 - planes there are sweet to ride.

I was lucky enough to try out an early build of Armed Assault. These screenshots looks tons better than what I saw (probably because of the crappy PC we were using), and the animations are looking great aswell. Glad to see they were all redone !!

Expect the same type of OFP gameplay with much better graphics. We didn't get to try out any armour or aircraft, so I can't comment on those, but the infantry gameplay is as good as ever !!

Yeah, one of the best thing on ArmA. Now are sections of terrain loaded on the fly (like in flight simulators for example). So Islands can now be as large as modders care to make them. Damn great feature :D

No list haven't yet been released. But there will be more than 50 vehicles. Like M1A1, Vulcan. Hummer, Stryker, UH-60, AH-6, AH-1Z, T-72, UAZ, Shilka and others. Very similar like in OFP.

Sure, some Call of duty (insert # here) is bound to look better genius. Flashpoint is the one and only for those that want it as close as possible to simulating warfare.....but since gfx is your thing i suggest "Crysis" (sp).

OFP never needed better graphics, with addons etc I actually think it looks good. Might be blind love though. But as I said, it never needed to have great graphics. It had great gameplay and "feeling". Never have I played a game so much as I have played OFP.

Dynamic Afghanistan (DELTA) has revived my love for OFP and i have spent many nights scouting for the rebel leader for that oneshot resolution, and if i cant get a shot....there is allways the lure and bombard.

All other games that have claimed to have open gameplay has failed next to Flashpoint imo, it has no equal anywhere.

They seem to have made a mix between US Marines and US Army, they are wearing something that appears to be ACU but they're wearing USMC LWH helmets.

Looks cool nonetheless, better than the standard guys that are in the normal OFP.

There was, but at the beginning of ArmA development. In the process, BI has changed their plans with ArmA. Originally ArmA was just upgraded OFP, someone called it OFP 1.5, but now it's a new game :D

OFP never had that many amazing graphics, and was full of llitle bugs... not of them critical.
But the simulation of sub-tactical level was so great and lovely. I spent countless hours on it. There is a reason why it was selected by some real armies.

Oh and Marine Corps Pilots do support Army troops as well. It's not like cobra pilots say "nope thats army, call off the support"...so regardless if you can play Marines or not, wherever the army goes, you can bet Marines go to.

Because Bohemia Interactive Studio (the developer) parted ways with Codemasters (the publisher of OFP), they no longer hold the rights to the title "Operation Flashpoint." Armed Assault is basically an updated version of OFP with a new campaign. BIS is also developing "Game2," which will basically be the true sequel to OFP. It should be replaced with this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Avenger_missile.jpg), But 100% accuracy has never been the goals of OPF. The mods are what eliminates all "gameplay" induced balancing that all games are plagued by.

My (top of my head) wishlist too Santa would be:
Adjustable scopes (please).
UH-1Y + Marine fireteam (support from a nearby carrier).
Working bodyarmour and flackjackets (On/Off for MP).
Militia type units for the East and west (ragtag paramilitary nutjobs).
Civilians that arm themselves and join the fray (uncertainty factor).
Realistic airsupport and artillery (a must).
And for the first time ever, the sonic crack of a bullet portrayed realisticly (i hate the swooshy 7,62mm bees that inhabit Everon).

But most of the above will come as mods sooner of later so i´m set anyway :)

I'm actually getting sick of spec ops in games.

It's why I liked the 1st ofp so much. You could just be a freaking grunt and follow orders and just be more concerned about saving your own skin then actually doing anything.

Yeah I know. I am a modder for OFP myself. But I do expect a bit of realism when it comes out of the box though :roll:

Preaching to the quire man :) i loathe balancing A´la DOD and CS. I have no idea why the M163 was chosen instead of the Avenger but i guess it has too do with MP balancing.

That's why JAMHD magazines were so good mate, give them to the OPFOR blokes, keep the good mags for yourself and then wipe em out, while taking heaps of rounds in your, ah.. generalish direction.
Too bad with my VBS1 using the converted JAM3 with HD mags makes the game crash at random places, sigh. Just going to have to live with it :)

Nothing more frusterating than being hidden in some grass or bushes but the guy 200m away can see you plain as day. :)

That is an incredibly hard thing to get rid of. I have been trying to find an algorithm to provide that functionality while preserving performance goals for a very long time.

In it, foliage can't be disabled, and is viewable at all distances. Really changes the dynamics of the game. However, even though the maps are pretty large in RO, they're not nearly at the same scale as OFP or ArmA.

No. There tons of SP missions (no campaigns though). You have to become member with several sites to get the nice SP missions.

Anyway, I also got VBS, it really is way better than OFP, although with some minor faults.. But VBS is how OFP should have been from the start. The AI actually engages you from quite a distance and hits you.

The helicopter flight model in OFP is supposed to be excellent, in fact a friend of mine who happens to be a chopper pilot recons it's more realistic than MS Flight Sim's model. I agree that it's very good.

I have to disagree. Trust me on this one lol, choppers in OFP do crash ;) From hitting power-lines to engine failures, forces are out there to bring you down :p

Granted, it's taken add-ons and mods to achieve a higher level of realism, when it comes to damage, failures and the likes. For instance, there's a mod called the FFUR 2006 (Flash FX Unit Replacement Mod) which totally modernises the game, replaces all the default units, vehicles and weapons with current generation equivalents and adds many new features and effects, one of them being automatic flares on all aircraft ;) :D

If you downloaded your version of VBS you're running a pirated copy. Same as the other guy a few posts about your post. You wont be able to access "ANY" VBS resources. And it is rather a bit stupid posting that you dwonloaded it.

You can equip him with a banana launching RPG launcher if you want. Loadouts are totally customisable

Ok, they wont fold up like card houses any more, but non at all? hmmmm...

What I liked a lot was watching the AI doing the "leap-frogging" in the demo. Seems like BIS improved AI quite a bit but what could be seen in this video.

Are you referring to that ambush video? If so then I agree, I wasn't that impressed. The graphics have been revamped, yeah, but the sounds are practically the same 4 year old OFP sounds, and I noticed they haven't resolved the 100gram vehicles getting blown 50m away by a LAW :-(

I agree, the sound isn't all that fantastic. Hopefully it will be signifcantly updated before it's released. If not, I recall it wasn't that hard to mod the sound files, so I'm sure some good sound packs will be released, just as there was for OFP.
