Hmmm, minimal weapon signature then!!!!!
I don't think the Aussies have updated their Carl Gustav.
I think my ATW gunner1 got the world record in firing certain number of HEAT rounds in a certain amount of minuts.. 21 ROUND's in 8 minuts...He was pretty dissy in 3 days afterwards..:)
But is it true that the norwegians are the only ones who can fire the CG from a lying position?

The Carl G can be fired from the standing, kneeling or ****e positions.

Ok,woot thank god for that..
It's so fun to fire the "Illuminating grenade".
It has to be fired from a standing position, and when you shoot it gives a powerfull kick to the back of your knees...
I love my Dysekanon (Carl Gustav)

Thanks for the advice.

Why, why, why did The British armed forces give up this brilliant weapon?

´Cause they bought the LAW 80 and thought it would be sufficent, forgetting its use on soft targets?

Yes, that is very much the case, and even notwithstanding the interesting uses to which the LAw80's built in spotting rifle has been put, geting rid of the Charlie-G and it's wide variety of ammunition types was a very sohrt-sighted move.
As was proven in the Falklands it was very useful against bunkers and other targets and was so much cheaper to operate than the Milan or for that matter the LAW80. I'm sure the boys would also be very happy to get their hands on the old 66mm LAW as well.

DeltaWhisky58: do you know if the British MOD have stored, sold or scrapped the Karl Gustav?
Considering the yanks is finding it useful in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I thought I heard that the Marines are starting to prefer LAWs instead of CG's in Iraq mainly because of the weight. I could be wrong though...

They are buying new light-weight LAW's as a complement to the AT-4 (M136)
for yeah most of all the weight issue. (penetration is alot worse, but they don't run into many enemy tanks anyway...) they are not much cheaper btw.
check out nammo's webpage for more info on the 'reborn' law

I really like the Carl Gustav, even though the caliber of 84mm does limit it's use against modern tanks, it is very versatile and more useful in today's deployments than "at only" rocket launchers.

There was talk after Telic/OIF of re-introducing recoiless rifle-type weapons like the CG and others. The idea being that it would enable motorised (ie hummer/landie) units to have the firepower to breech buildings and knock out bunkers without the expense of a guided munition.
As for the 66, as Signatory said, the US are updating the M72 LAW for use in urban fighting. With more modern propellants and warheads, it is possible to make the '66' so it can be fired from inside a room with minimal backblast, and have increased penetration/effect on the target.

No doubt that there's a strong need of cost-effective launchers in modern warfare. Too much attention was once directed towards sophisticated AT systems. Simpler, cheaper and more versatile systems such as Charlie-G ,66's, or modernized RPG's are more usefull to the infantryman than most of the sophisticated weaponry of newer generations.
Here's one gizmo, very sought after by PMC's and some US troops from 5th SFG - our guys from 1PSK sometimes traded it for other stuff. Kinda pocket-RPG.

I've seen it fired from inside a Humvee, or our honker. Simple and useful tool. No match for a tank but no car or smaller apc can stand it. Just wear nomex gloves and sleeves down or it'll depilate your body hair.
Well, got one vid from a '96 norwegian army promoting video. Just a 8sec bit, but .. well, it's fired atleast. (2.13 meg)
