Which rank/grade are you in your respective military service (Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserve)
If your country has a different rank structure just pick the equivilant rank.

Officer candidates are usually afforded the "rank" of E-6.
I'm actually an OE-3. (Prior enlisted...)

I guess it depends on what program you are in. I know service academies don't have any "rank." You're pretty much in na-na land. For service academy cadets, you're not enlisted, you're not officer, but you're active duty. The Geneva card lists you in the officer category though. You don't really have any real rank. If someone wants to treat you like an officer, they can. They can also pretend you're below an E-1. Not that an E-1 deserves any less respect than an officer, but some people feel that way.
I don't know about OTS, OCS, ROTC or any of the other programs though.

nunya.....
As for a cadet... it's E-5 that you get credit as... but I 've never given a cadet any credit unless he was prior service... because going to school, getting drunk, fvcking, and living off of your parents good will, and not acually serving as a pro doesn't give you any credit... now you go thru the same as a young soldier, and bust your ass proving that you deserve to wear a uniform... that's a different subject.... I only recently started respecting Willy Petes.... They acually do get their asses kicked daily in school... but most of them are still a bunch of fags... they get too many chances to pass..... Now if any of you feel offended by what I said, then you must fall into the same catagory... and it sucks to be you...

Enlisted Rank Structure (http://www.defenselink.mil/specials/insignias/enlisted.html)
Officer and Warrant Officer Rank Structure (http://www.defenselink.mil/specials/insignias/officers.html)
Basically, the rank structures are based on pay grades, where you have a letter signifying whether it's Enlisted/Officer/Warrant Officer, then a number for its level in the structure (i.e. E-4 is the fourth enlisted pay grade, O-5 the fifth officer grade, etc.). There can be multiple ranks for each pay grade as well (i.e. Specialist and Corporal are both E-4 in the Army).

E-1 Private (PVT. Team Member)
E-2 Private2 (PV2. Team Member)
E-3 Private First Class (PFC. Team Member)
E-4 Specialist (SPC. Team Member)/ Corporal (If your in a leadership position then your given the Cpl Rank (Team Leader)
E-5 Sargent (Team Leader)
E-6 Staff-Sargent (SSG)(Squad Leader)
E-7 Sargent First Class (SFC)(Platoon Sargent)
E-8 Master Sargent (MSG)(Staff NCO or Team Member(SF))
First Sargent (1SG)(Company Chief NCO)
E-9 Sargent Major (SGM)(Staff NCO or Section NCO)
Command Sargent Major (CSM) (BN, BDE, DIV GP or above Chief NCO)
Command Sargent Major of the Army (CSM of Army) (Top NCO of the US Army
All of these ranks are from the US Army, and in the SF Community the roles are different, Exampl, SGT., SSG., SFC., Are usually A-Team Members, where a MSG is usually the A-Team NCOIC, the SF Team. I'm sure there are others who could better explain this.
Warrent Officers:
These are 4 grades that are usually pay positions, and doesn't determine leadership positions, except the CW of the Army (CW5) These are mostly technical grades usually in the Support Branches, QM, COMMO, Medical, etc... I do know that the Army did away with the MEdical Warrent Officers back before I got out.. Our Bn Surgin was a CW3 SF qualified, and one day the Army made him a 2LT...
I also heard of some SF Medical Spc.(P.A.) who were A-Team Leaders with the rank of Chief Warrent Officer. Although I never saw it but I think once... Maybe some one can help out on that...
Officers:
O-1 2nd LT (Plt Leaders)
O-2 1st LT (Plt Leaders / Company XO) (Also do staff positions)
O-3 CPT (Company Commanders and staff officers (In SF usually hole A-Team Ldr positions)
O-3 Major (Bn XO, staff Positions, and I think hold Company Commanders positions in the SF) (Team Lders in 1st-SFOD-D)
O-4 LTC (Bn Cdrs, XO, staff positions)
O-5 COL (Bde, Rgt, Grp Cdrs (staff Positions etc...)
O-6 BG (Operations Commanders, Assist Div Cdrs Staff Positions etc...)
O-7 MG (Cdrs of Divs, Task Forse Cdrs, Assist Cdrs, Staff positions etc..)
O-8 LTG (Corp Cdrs, Task Forse AO Cdrs etc... etc... etc...)
O-9 GEN (Cdrs of everything else.....)
When it come to what Officers do, I wasn't one nor was I a Warrent Offer, so maybe there's someone else around who could better enlighten us on the business of Officers and Gneral Officers...
As for the Enlisted, and NCO ranks, I was one, and did the job, so I feel I'm pretty close, I know too that there are lots of staff jobs etc.. that have different ranks, I came out of the Infantry, and thank god, never was on anyones staff/desk job... I was on the line for 9.5 years with a 6 month stint in Germany in the S-4 because of a profile....

Pay Grade are the E-1 thru O-9 ... it's just another thing to tell you what group you fall under to determine how much the army pays you... example.
E-1 with 4 months of service.. get $$ and a E-7 with 13 years gets $$$$$
If you go to the Army Times web site they usually have a pay scale in it..

Actually, service academy cadets (Anapolis, West Point, Colorado Springs) are technically officers. In times of war they would be sort of "3rd Lt's" below commisioned officers but above NCO's.
"Grade" is your pay scale.
"Rank" is your title.
An example of the difference would be the term, "Captain". In the AF, Army and Marine Corps, that would mean a officer with an O-3 pay grade. But in the Navy, Captain is an O-4 pay grade.

Captain in the Navy id a Colonal in the Army... O-6... Commander in the Navy is a LTC in the Army (O-5).. and a Lt Commander is a Major in the Army (O-4).. A 1Lt in the Navy is a Captain in the Army, and then their 2nd Lt and Ensign 1Lt and 2LT in the Army

Sorry - my bad. (And I hate that saying!)
Was working through the ranks in the old brain, knew what I was thinkin' and put down O-4 anyway. Durf.
Don't tell my Dad - the old navy guy. I think he's still got a raised eyebrow about me going AF and then Army.

He makes a valid point. I ETS'd a Sergeant E5. Do I vote E3-E5 or E5-E7?
Also, if you're going to rip on someone's spelling, you should at least use proper spelling and grammar yourself.
Nice way to jump someone's ass for asking a question though.
