U.S. Mideast Commander Escapes Iraq RPG Attack
BAGHDAD (*******) - The U.S. commander in the Middle East, General John Abizaid, escaped unharmed from a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Iraq Thursday, the U.S. army said.
"At 1330 in Falluja, General Abizaid and General (Charles) Swannack were visiting a local Iraqi civil defense corps compound when three rocket-propelled grenades were fired at their convoy from rooftops nearby," Brigadier-General Mark Kimmitt told a news conference.
"No coalition soldiers or civilians were injured."
Kimmitt, the chief U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, said American forces returned fire and unsuccessfully pursued the assailants.
Falluja, 50 km (32 miles) west of Baghdad, is a cauldron of anti-American activity in Iraq and is part of the area known as the Sunni triangle, Saddam Hussein's former power base.
Abizaid is the third high-profile American official to escape an attack in Iraq.
The others are U.S. administrator Paul Bremer, whose convoy was attacked in December, and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, whose Baghdad hotel was hit by rockets.

I'm sure the bad guys have their own "list" of guys to kill/capture. Luckily, they've been unsuccesful so far... at least in terms of the Americans.

Eh...They don't know who's inside these convoys. They take pop shots. Yet he was very fortunate to get out of it with no injuries. Could you imagine the propaganda if they had killed one of our highest Generals...oh boy !

You reckon? Never underestimate your enemy. That leads to complacency, deaths and defeat.

Believe me, I know this. But I don't think these particular attackers knew who was in this convoy.

Quite funny to see this general is wearing the para wings of Germany, a member of the so-called axis of weasels...
Good to see the anti-German bashing has not reached Class-A uniforms...
Heard a news report: two soldiers suffered injuries. General Abizaid was not hurt.

A piece of clothing or badge/patch doesn't reflect one's worldly opinions. Schmuck.
Edit: How do those wings represent a German basher or an anti-German basher?

The irony is that Schmuck in German means Jewelry. The Yiddish (Germanic derivation) word is shmok, I believe ...

Actually, I'd say that it does show an opinion. A lot of work in the military has to do with the details, seeing someone and analyzing their appearance very rapidly for clues about them. Everything on the Class A has a reason behind it, no? Have a good one, and just some thoughts...
