Well I'm back.
And what an epic journey it was too. It was all good fun till someone lost an eye or in this case had a run in with an 57mm AAA round. But all's well that end's well and nobody sustained permanent damage.
I'll do this in two parts,
PART 1
The list of people from this site to whom I owe gratitude is long and distinguished but the following three sit right on the military crest;
EvanLloyd, for hooking me up with those who'd gone before. (And back several times since)
James, for answering my questions with patience, wisdom and above all useful information. And,
Flagg, for checking up on me regularly and backbriefing me on the current state of the site.
There are many others, most of whom wished to remain anonymous.
PART 2
Behind every moderately effective soldier you'll usually find a damn fine woman.
In my case she has the patience of a saint, the strength of mountain and the serenity of an angel.
I am and will always be extremely grateful to have had her in my life.
I know there are a couple of ladies on this site who have boyfriends, husbands, significant others in the military. FarmGirl and Ria immediately come to mind and there are probably others that I am unaware of. I am truly lost for words trying to imagine what the average military spouse endures on a daily basis whilst their loved one is deployed.
In my case she works full time and simultaneously raises our young son. She does an exceptional job at both, at least that's what all those who know her say. They don't have to tell me, I'm well aware.
Anyway, I'm not going to name her for obvious reasons and she'll almost certainly never find out that I've posted this, but it is important that her contribution, as well as the contributions made by all military spouses be recognised. If only in this discreet way.
As for me, currently I'm about to tidy up a few loose ends at work before taking a month off over Xmas.
Well, thats enough rambling. Again thanks to all those who supported me. When your time comes I'll be there for you too.
Ngati.
