Truly excellent pictures, well done.

I'd be interested to know if the trucks pictured on the 4th picture from the last were license-built or bought directly from France or even through another country.

They are Berliet GBC8 KT trucks, awesomely sturdy beasts, still in use 40 years after they were first issued.

Soldiers with thats red scarfs had to be very easy target for snipers. Also these reds flags on collars had to be easy to spot.

The only pics I had ever seen about this war were pics of Chinese troops being welcomed back in China, and then only few pics anyway.

Were the Chinese troops drafted only from adjacent military districts or also from further afield? Is there public information about air combat and possible commando/airborne operations?

Were the Chinese troops drafted only from adjacent military districts or also from further afield? Is there public information about air combat and possible commando/airborne operations? As I know, most Chinese troops invovled in this war were from adjacent military districts, especially from Guangzhou military district. But during the following ~8 year boundary conflict, the troops from all the military districts participated in shift. The purpose was to "train the army in the real battles".

And the airforce and airborne from both sides didn't involve in the War since both sides didn't want the war expand to hinterlland.

I never thought it was that big. I guess this is another forgotten war out here in the west.

I have no comment on these data since neither China nor Vitenam offically disclosed the number of lose. But it was a really short war -- only lasted for one month.

For the vietnamese, they inherited all the best equipment from the American and the Soviet.

physically the chinese troopers are very fit but they used all the out dated equipment. In this war heard that some of the rockets and bombs could not be used cause they had expired.

Some of the soldiers appear to be wearing World War 2 Japanese helmets!? Or was this a PRC copy of that?Good observation! When the war started, PLA didn't have enough helmets so they used some WWII Japanese helments in stock. Actually you can see two different types of helments in that picture.

You like Starbucks? ;)
Great pics! (repeating the obvious)
For the M1981 Mine-Sweeping Rocket System, does it drag a hose of explosives with it or does it just saturate an area with rockets?

Hahaaa.... You know Ping Ying?
M1981 uses the rockets to clear the mines. So is GSLⅢ Mine-Sweeping Rocket system:

The latest mine sweeping system and the old GSL131 sytem use the hose of explosives:
