Im thinking about buying a balaclava that SEALS and other armed forces soldiers wear. Ive seen different types of them but I want to get the official SEAL balaclava (mostly worn by them). Anyone know what type these would be?

(hard to tell but..still)
What type of balaclava should I get for my whole SEAL look?

I believe it was a Navy SEAL Demonstration in NYC on Memorial Day in 2002. Go here, http://www.specwargear.com, then click on Special Events and look for it. Theres a lot more pictures of it.

looks something similar to the Hatch nomex hood you can buy.... the one with the bib that tucks into your collar so you're neck isnt exposed.

so do you think they're all wearing the balaclavas with the bib on it? Oh ya are those heavyweight or lightweight hoods theyre wearing?

the guy in the top picture just has the short neck hood on, those ones are alright.... let the heat out better. It depends what you're gonna be doing with it, you dont want to be running around all day in the sun with it on ;).
I'd go the lightweight nomex hood without the bib.

Hey Redsniper I live in Mesa and I'm thinking of playing airsoft too. Where do you get your weapons and do you know of any stores or anything in the general area that have stuff like the balaclava and other equipment. I've also been thinking about doing the Naval Cadets thing (im 16) and how are you going to do SEAL training.

What is the official one? It would vary from unit to unit and sometimes numerous ones would be worn at the same time.
This particular item is not something produced just for the military, like BDUs that everyone uses the same. Logistics people buy these things with a govt issued credit card from various vendors. Sometimes its a Hooah store right off base, sometimes it might be straight from the factory. Sometimes guys may not like the one that they are issued and go out and get one they like better, or their wife might have put it in with the wool socks and its covered in lint balls and they are deploying manana ect ect ect. You could reach down, find that little pair you think you have, grab a whole handful of balls and go up and ask a real deal, even convince him that you are not a wannabe, but a real honest collector of militaria and he might even give you his, but you can bet that there will be numerous other examples that other guys are wearing.

lol, got alittle 'chicken-wing' exposed in that m16a1 shot. Also, watch the trigger finger. The first rule of firearm saftey is to keep your finger off untill you are ready to shoot. Airsoft or not - old habits die hard.

I dont know who it was, but someone but some pretty cruel comments on my guestbook. You didnt have to be rude about it, im just a collector, im not telling everyone.."Oh I'm a SEAL!!", im just collecting it cuz I have so much respect for them. Well whoever you are, you have offended me and I wish you'd apologize.
RedSniper
04-29-2003, 01:44 AM
thx bro for the apology. i feel alot better now :D dont worry im not gonna let the airsoft stuff get too crazy but im still gonna join the Naval Cadets program and do the SEAL training (just to see if i have what it takes, and to do cool SEAL stuff ;) ) well thx again. im glad u apologized.

for a second there I thought you meant "baklava". Oohh, you haven't lived until you've eaten Greek rofl
all that stuff looks expensive, how much is that setting you back?
I know of a deserter here at 29 Palms MCAGCC and he is paying alot to pay back the Marine Corps. for all the equiptment they wasted on him.

Not too much money, you just gotta watch for good deals. I got my gear from ebay, internet, surplus stores, and gun shows. The guns werent that much cuz theyre jsut airsoft and theyre not that good. I was gonna get ALOT of gear this last christmas but i got this really kickass guitar insted but ill be getting alot more gear this summer. Mostly SEALs equipment cuz im getting this really bad ass salt water pool. Do the SEALs wear special waterproof BDUs?? I remember kind of hearing about this somewhere, didnt really doubt it, just was curious.

I play a strat myself. Got a new body on it and workin' on slappin' a Sh-8 Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge position.
Never really bought much off of eBay other than the guitar and some other things like a flag.
Best part of the desert is that once you are a few miles out of the city(doesn't take much, hiking is great out here) you can take real guns and have your fun, errr.. they also have ranges out here I hear
Wow, a salt water pool, thats gonna be great. Over here we just use regular old chlorine water in a very large training pool on base we call the "tank" ;)

don't have much on the way of equiptment, just my combat boots, ruck, woodland bdus, a kevlar helmet, cap, sweats, combat knife, and yep, thats about it. Just all in my closet, nice and pretty, bdus are kinda worn tho.
Oh yeah, forgot, have an Iraqi helmet brought back from Desert Storm ;)
don't know much about what SEALs wear or not, never payed too much attention

lol, hell ya. Arizona is a pretty good state to live in. Where i live, north Phoenix, its really nice and beautiful. Barely any crime, gangs arent a problem either. Theres lots of open space and desert area about 4 miles north of my house and they have a couple of shooting ranges by here too. Bottom line is, if u love combat, training, shooting, tatics ect... you should come by and check it out. ;)

this is a picture of myself taken about a month ago when i was bored as hell with not much else to do... obviously Australian, TSG helmet, bolle` t800 goggles, nomex gloves and hood, altama boots, Browning HIPower and a SADF vest i painted. I made the holster and the thigh pouch...
have made a R.A.C.K in auscam, ghillie suits and some other small things... im aiming to start a buisness in the future manufacturing mission specific equipment for people like yourself and hopefully myself.
enjoy :)

actually, i started collecting ranger gear
the rest of my team wear belgian camo or us-woodland
i know some guys who are collecting seal gear, and even making a whole seal-team
but as airsoft is still developping in belgium and as US-gear is hard to find, nobody really has a complete oufit
I think that guy went a little overboard when it comes to blanking out the faces...

What does airsoft have to do with military photos? Yeah.... Keep 'um coming hood. I thought it was funny.
It was a satirical commentary on the link you posted. :) It also pokes me in the ribs whenever someone blanks out faces like that, particularly when it was a public demonstration specifically intended for the world to see.
