Female bombers kill 27 in Iraq police academy

BAGHDAD (*******) - Two female suicide bombers killed at least 27 police officers and students at the Baghdad Police Academy and wounded another 32 on Tuesday in the worst bombing attack for a month, the U.S. military said.
"Two females, each wearing a suicide vest, walked into a classroom at the academy and detonated in the midst of students," the military said in a statement.
There were no U.S. forces at the academy in eastern Baghdad when the bombers attacked at 12.45 p.m. (0945 GMT), it said.
It was the worst attack of its kind since two suicide bombers strapped with explosives killed at least 74 people and reduced two crowded Shi'ite mosques to rubble during Friday prayers in the northeast Iraqi town of Khanaqin on November 18.
Iraqi and U.S. forces are battling a Sunni Arab-led insurgency against the Shi'ite and Kurdish-led government in the lead-up to December 15 elections for Iraq's first full-term parliament since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

The men were wearing explosives-laden vests and U.S. contractor was among those wounded, a U.S. military statement said. U.S. forces rushed to the scene to provide assistance, the statement said. The military retracted an earlier statement that the bombers were women.

Those trainees are seriously brave men. Real "Patriots" in the best sense of the word.....Think about how hard it would be to sign up to be a cop, knowing full well that you're family may be in jeopardy because of it, your life could end violently at any given moment, some of your neighbors want to kill you, you're enemy is armed better than you and probably is better trained. Their sole mission is death and destruction. While you are supposed to show up at work every day to try to bring a little order to chaos.

My wife said that she saw a news report that the 2 female bombers worked at the academy, and the second bomber waited for the first one to go off, and then followed all the IP's into the bunker and detonated the second one. Any truth to this?

well 24 hours later,and the official reports are still saying it was 2 female officers/cadets who carried out the attack,despite Zarqawi's claim it was two "brothers"...which makes me think even more that some claims made are pure b/s,and that it's too easy for someone to submit a claim that it was Zarqawi.......until he appears on a video listing all the attacks carried out by him,then I'll remain sceptical of what's reported!!
