I dont care for meat all that much. I am no vegetarian mind you, I would just rather eat a slice of bread, or have a peach than eat a big slab of clotting flesh.

fry up? enlighten the americans on the forum, I for one, have no idea what that is.

As for me, coffee and maybe fruit, but definitely coffee

On the weekends, the wife and I have a great tradition. We make all that stuff the Jack had and read the paper. Aww, it really is cool. For hashbrown lovers, bake a potato in the microwave the night before. Then in the morning cut it up and make your hasbrowns. It cuts the time by about 3-4x and they are always done.

A "fry up" is another name for a traditional cooked English breakfast, which consists of any combination of the following;

Sausages
Bacon
Fried Eggs
Mushrooms
Baked Beans (English ones, not the US style)
Fried Bread
Tomatoes
Black Pudding
Hash Browns

Usually served with;

Side order of buttered toast
Mug of tea

And in some places you can get chips (fries to you US lads) with it as well. It's called a "fry up" as apart from the beans and toast, everything is usually fried in vegetable oil. There is a cafe near my station that still fries everything in lard, the old fashioned way. Tastes great but you can feel your arteries clogging up whilst you eat! :D

Fry ups usually cost about £3-4 (about $5-7) and keep you full up until tea time. Perfect hangover cure after a night's drinking.

Will have to talk the missus into cooking me one when she gets in. :D

Looks a bit like this (but in most cafes you get at least two of every item instead of the one of each shown here)

If I ever appear on Mastermind, cooked breakfasts would be my specialist subject - I love them. I am drooling just looking at the picture below.

http://www.ansteyscove.co.uk/Full_English_Breakfast.jpg

When I was working with a US police department, we used to get given steak, fried eggs and hash browns for breakfast. Is it common for steaks to be eaten at breakfast in the USA??

You don't really get Black Pudding in cafés (et cetera) anymore; I guess because most people nowadays just think, "Eww!" when they come across it.

I'm not really one for a fry up, as I only like the beans and sausauges, and then I don't like sausages fried. I just stick to my meats and breads... And Coca-Cola...

Wow! I'm moving. We do have similar here though. We call it "country breakfast" in the states. I'll look around for pitcures but many of the same items would appear - no beans or mushrooms, though.

There you go, Sir. ;)

"HP Sauce
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

HP Sauce is a popular brown sauce produced in Birmingham, England. It has a malt vinegar base blended with fruit and spices.

The original recipe for was invented and developed by FG Garton a grocer from Nottingham. F.G. Garton's Sauce Manufacturing began to market HP Sauce in 1903. Garton came to call the sauce HP because he had heard that a restaurant in the Houses of Parliament had begun serving it. Garton sold the recipe and HP brand for the sum of £150 and the settlement of some unpaid bills to Edwin Samson Moore.

HP Sauce became known as "Wilson's Gravy" in the 1960s and '70s after Harold Wilson, the Labour Prime Minister who, it was alleged, used to cover his food with the sauce. The allegation was neither confirmed nor denied by Wilson.

The brand is now owned by Danone."

HP Sauce!!! No fry up is complete without HP Sauce. I don't think there is anything remotely similiar in the USA, it is a Brit thing. Basically it goes with everything and tastes great. Better than tomato ketchup.

Plus it has the Queen's Royal Warrant!

Black Pudding, one of the great creations of civilised society, is essentially congealed pig's blood in a length of intestine. There are many variations; in England, the pudding is usually bound with rusk and has bits of fat in it. The French have their boudin noir with nowt but blood in the casing, the Germans blotwürst, the Spanish morcilla which is often bound with rice...

Here in Knox Vegas we got a place called Vic 'n Bill's. It is right behind our law school and next to the only gay bar in town, called the Carousel go figure. Anyway that is the local fave for best burger. Open 24 hours a day and the "lady" that takes your order is meaner than a striped snake. They serve Pabst Blue Ribbon beer in the 16 oz. cans and you get mayo, lettuce, onion, tomato and mustard on that burger whether you like it or not. The bomb, literally and figuratively. Wish I could post you guys a picture of the joint and the burger but I am an internet retard.

Local burger joints, along with beer, are evidence that God wants us to be happy. :D
