So thats a Chinese AWACS?
It's the KJ-2000 AWACS. It's basically a Beriev A50 (AEW version of the IL-76) but fitted with an indigenous Chinese radar. Originally it was suppose to be fitted with an Israeli Phalcon system but under U.S. pressure the Israelis withdrew from the program.

How does the Chinese radar compare with the original Russian one? I'm guessing not as good but I could be wrong.

"The first Chinese car to be sold in Europe has scored zero the worst-ever score in safety tests"
"The two-ton 4x4 scored zero stars in crash tests last week by the ADAC, the German automobile club, which carries out tests for Euro NCAP. It had a catastrophic result, said a spokesman for the ADAC. In our 20-year history no car has performed as badly.

You're right, it's not. I think what he meant was that it was unnecessary to put CHICOM in the title when he could have put PLAF instead. Personally, I don't give a sh*t either way. ;)

In the USN we refer to the People's Republic of China, and her armed forces, as CHICOM (CHinese COMmunist).

I think the whole idea is the meaning behind the words. Depending on who uses it, it can be degrogatory.
And hey, not everyone in China is Communist, so it's not true as well, :P

Lets break it down, Chinese + Communist = Chicom, it isn't rocket science, Chinese + non-Communist ≠ Chicoms, so very true, not everyone in China get the special treatment of Chicom status.
The lingo been around for a long while now and mostly just within the defense community and the military without anything degrogatory meant in regard to Chinese's military and somehow I highly doubt a good numbers of those in uniforms and top honchos are not Chinese with Communist party membership. Well, China does have the biggest victim mentality in the world and if they feel the need to have the term as something negative to keep that going, more power to them.

Man, I can't believe you actually wasted your time to explain the term to that zero.

Chicom is not a racial slur, however the word "chin*" is, so there problem solved.
Now back to topic, is that radar antenna plate capable of spinning or it's like a phased array radar which stays stationary? If it is a phase array radar why is it designed like a dish, and not something like RAAF's Wedgetail AWACS antenna?
P.S.: I noticed some of you gave me a neg rep point because I questioned whether the picture is photoshopped or not, but indeed there are a lot of PLA military pics that were photoshopped for no reason I can think of, therefore my doubt regarding the authenticity of the photo is legitimate until proven otherwise.
Reputation points....... it means EVERYTHING.

The antenna is fixed and has three arrays. How good are they? I would not hold my breath on those expectations.
As for the Rep points? Who cares. Don't sweat that ****. But if it makes you feel better, then I'll give you a good rep point right now!!!

My guess is that the antenna is probably part Russian and part Chinese technology, since they chose to use the Russian A-50/Il-76 (but not any of the Chinese made transport aircrafts?) as the platform to carry that antenna.

Don't worry about the rep points, I'm just saying. Besides I already gave you one, positive rep point of course, why is your rep not turning green I have no idea. Cheers.:)
