Rooster - Alice in Chains
One - Metallica
19 - Paul Hardcastle
(For some reason the top three I picked were all songs about damaged soldiers.)
By the way while in Iraq attending the funeral service of a soldier attached to my battalion, one of the departed's friends who was an amateur musician decided the best tribute he could give his friend ws a song he wrote. As sad as the occasion was, it was an effort for probably all involved not to break out into laughter, this guy was so bad... It was almost like watching American Idol reject William Hung try to sing a ballad...a ballad that William Hung wrote.

Few polish mostly traditional and historical.
My favorite
"Red poppies on monte cassino."-Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino
D`you see those ruins on the hill-top?
There your foe hides like a rat!
You must, you must, you must
Grab his neck and cast him down from the clouds!
And they went, mad, furious
And they went, to kill and avenge
And they went stubborn as always,
As always - for honour - to fight.
Refrain:
Red poppies on Monte Cassino
Instead of dew, drank Polish blood.
As the soldier crushed them in falling,
But the anger was stronger than death.
Years will pass and ages will roll,
But traces of bygone days will stay,
And the poppies on Monte Cassino
Will be redder having quaffed Polish blood.
They charged through fire like madmen,
Countless were hit and fell,
Like the cavalry at Samosierra,
Like the men at Rokitno years ago.
They attacked with fury and fire,
And they got there. They climbed to the top,
And their white and scarlet standard
They placed on the ruins `midst clouds.
Refrain:
Red poppies on Monte Cassino ....
D`you see this row of white crosses?
Polish soldiers did honour there wed.
The further you go, the higher,
The more of such crosses youl'l meet.
This soil was won for Poland,
Though Poland is far away,
For Freedom is measured in crosses
When history from justice does stray.
Refrain:
Red Poppies on Monte Cassino...
"1st Brigade March"-Marsz pierwszej brygady.
"Growling rifles"- Warcza Karabiny
"Infantry"-Piechota
"Legions are..."-Legiony to

German version of the "Ballad of the Green Berets":
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/images/icons/icon2.gif Hundert Mann und ein Befehl (http://ralf.lalegion.ch/media/Freddy_Quinn_100_Mann_und_ein_Befehl.mp3) (sung by Freddy Quinn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddy_Quinn))
Songtext:
Irgendwo im fremden Land
ziehen wir durch Stein und Sand
fern von zu Haus und vogelfrei
hundert Mann und ich bin dabei
Hundert Mann und ein Befehl
und ein Weg den keiner will
tagein tagaus wer weiß wohin
verbranntes Land und was ist der Sinn
Ganz allein in dunkler Nacht
French version of the "Ballad of the Green Berets":
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/images/icons/icon2.gif Les Bérets verts (http://ralf.lalegion.ch/media/beret.mp3) (sung by a former German legionnaire)
Songtext:
Dans le ciel, couleur d'acier,
Ils descendent par milliers,
Ceux qui vont sur cette terre,
Lutter pour le béret vert.
Il faut croire ce que l'on dit,
Ne dire que si l'on agit,
Etre brave et être fier,
Pour gagner le béret vert.
Ils sont parmi les meilleurs,
Qui combattent et qui meurent,
Pour l'Occident qui espère,
Rester grâce aux bérets verts.
Il est tombé en laissant,
Avec ses ailes d'argent,
Une lettre pour sa femme,
Une lettre du Vietnam.
Donne les ailes d'argent,
Au fils quand il sera grand,
Qu'il soit brave, qu'il soit fier,
Pour gagner le béret vert.
