In the first years of the service up to 16 Boeing AV-8B Harrier II Plus then Lockheed Martin F-35B, 3 airborne surveillance helicopters (AgustaWestland EH-101 Mk.112 AEW/HEW), 4-6 other helicopters for ASW, ASUV, transport, CSAR, Utility/SAR/plane guard/COD/VERTREP (AgustaWestland EH-101, NHIndustries NH-90 or Agusta SH-3D/H in different configurations)

In theory, the ship would then be available to transport up to 80-100 light wheeled vehicles or light armoured vehicles (AR-90 Defender, VM-90 series, VTLM-LMV, light trucks, Puma 4x4 and Puma 6x6, BV-206S), or up to 50 medium-weight combat vehicles (VCC-1/2 series APC, VCC-80 Dardo IFV, Centauro 8x8 VBC, Centauro 105mm AFV, AAV7-A1), or finally up to 24 tanks (Ariete, Leopard).

The actual Italian aircraft carrier is smaller that this, called "Garibaldi" is long 180m (this 244m) and weigh 13385 ton (this 27100 ton).
