Well, more than 70000 german POWs married a british woman and stayed forever there.

There were not enought young men in britain too after the war, and those POWs whose homes were in the soviet occupied territories chose to stay.

Here is a Source about only 24000 who stayed, but the 70000 is from a documentary Ive seen on Discovery.

Easily, they are buried in tundrap-) No, seriously some Czars (Peter the Great?) invited German peasents and industrialist to Russia in order to cultivate the land and create mills, factories etc.

But I wasn't talking about Volga-Germans, but the Germans that setteld in the central republics of the USSR - Kazakhstan,Tajikistan... They were mostly POWS who decided to stay there after the war.
