STFU Lars!

...and furthermore, where is the real Metallica? It was like I woke up one day in 1995 and there were these clowns that looked like James, Lars, Jason and Kirk...but they were playing really ****ty music.

Proof that aliens are among us, and they don't have musical instruments where they come from...

usa320

Ive seen that happen to many bands...

They play good music, but then they have to decrease their standards to keep up with the evermore popular ****ty hip-hop music.

If they dont, they dont stay in business.

Hopefully rock will go back to playing good music. The kind of music that their bands were good at. It seems like most rock bands now have resorted to adding chanting or rapping into their music to try and keep up with hip-hop music. Instead of keeping up with hip-hop and rap, they need to show the music-listeners that rap takes no musical talent... and they need to write good music to show that Rock is really something that takes skill to be able to play...

Rock bands have to stop changing their style to attract the hip-hop fans, instead they need to go back and play rock the way its meant to be played. someone needs to stand up to the hip hop and rap music genre, because all its doing is preaching hate, making African Americans look bad, and sending America down the moral ****ter.

I don’t think he said anything out of order, he objects to his music being used as a means to extract information.
What he states quite cleary is that Metallica is pretty lightweight in the metal / noise department compared to Modern black / death metal and the use of their band name is just cleary more workable for the media.

Being that my occupation is in the music industry, I would also object to music that I have control over being used in a way I (and my associates) didn’t personally intend it for.

As for Hip hop requiring no talent – don’t talk about what you don’t understand, you hardly see me at the opera screaming “get off – this is old fart ****!”.

I don't think that Iron Maiden..Or Judas Preist would be B*tch'in about it..Give me a break will ya...I didn't hear anyone else in the band whine about it..just Lars...he likes the sound of his own voice.

I would tend to think that it's more of an attempt at attention getting by Lars.

I mean most consumers of their product hear that the troops are using it as a tool and probably say 'cool! Metallica rocks'

But Lars has to come out as the 'good celebrity' and whine about the intent of the music.

If they had used some Scandanavian death metal, Lars would complain that they didn't use American music. ;)

My faded black shirts are looking very fashionable.

Okay, Lars has a controlling influence in Metallica, he most likely is the one that owns a lot of the licensing rights to the bands music.
So there for he would be the natural front person to complain if he believed his intellectual property was being misused.

Now if he were smart, he would demand royalties from the Military for use of Metallicas music.

This may be all media hype – I don’t know.

Does the army pay for the right to re-bradcast their music? Have they purchased multiple copies of their CDs? If not, can the RIAA sue them? Can the RIAA sue the iraq prisoners for listening to music they haven't payed for? Can the Iraqi prisoners sue Lars for his music?

Metallica's contracts with their record label would feature details about licensing.
If certain parties are using their music and it's widely known (Radio stations etc), organizations like RIAA do assist in these matters of retrieving finances.

No the RIAA wouldn't sue the US military and no the RIAA couldn't possibly sue the Iraqi prisoners on any grounds.
Though Metallicas label can most certainly turn this into a legal issue - I seriously doubt they would bother, after all - any publicity is good publicity.

P.S I’m assuming the RIAA is the equivalent to Australia’s APRA music organisation.

Metallica are a bunch of wimpy has beens,if your looking for real full blooded American metal look no further than Iced Earth, they have a new video online called The Reckoning(Don't Tread on Me), a furious song about releasing the wrath of America to kick some terrorist ass.

Check it out: http://www.whocayes.com/lot/reckoning.avi (right click, save as) oh yeah you need divx codec for it to play too, but seriously its worth the download.

No probs.

The people that own the rights to any sesame street recording – may seek royalties if said product is being used.
I have stated the whole time it is unlikely any one would bother to sue, but they may use a third party such as RIAA for royalty payments.
You simply cannot announce that you are using any source of intellectual propriety and claim naiveté when said business wants its money.

At the end of the day, I don’t believe the US military is playing anything in large enough quantities for it to be a target of a record label / band or media regulator.

I am not saying Lars is my personal Idol or that I agree with any viewpoints that he might have about the US.

Just stating how these things work albeit from the Australian music industry perspective (though it’s really all the same world wide)

Lars Ulrich is a f---ing pussy. I used to be really into Metallica. I bought every album they sold, I saw them live ($35), I had I-don't-know-how-many Metallica tee-shirts ($: a lot), etc. But then the band started to REALLY REALLY SUCK.

I play Metallica (and Iron Maiden and Hammerfall and Nightwish) to annoy my neighbors when they're having noisy ***. Do I owe Metallica royalties/and or an apology as well? F--- Lars Ulrich.

The fact that Lars Ulrich is willing to point his finger at some other band (Venom) without giving them a call to ask their opinion on the Iraq War PROVES that he's a hypocritical polesmoker. So it's okay to play Venom to keep people awake during interrogation, but Metallica is to sacred to be touched?

F--- Lars Ulrich. I want my money back from those tee-shirts, polesmoker.

I have a different take on it then others here.

In my opinion Metallica has earned the right to be assholes and has earned a fee pass in life ;)

Listen when you make some of the best albums and music in history (for me it’s the black album, and justice for all…though I am sure others here have other choices) you damn well earned the right to say whatever the Fuuck you want no matter how retarded it is!!!!

Yes they have sucked balls big time since those albums and yes they have done a lot of very stupid things since, but fuuck that.

Some people just have earned that right p-)

Now if they hadn’t made those albums, then Id be all over them and saying how they should just shut the fuuck up and go back to whatever little hole they came from.

(Though I do admit, that if there is to be more stupidity to emanate from Metallica, well it would be stretching that free pass that I feel they earned ;) )

As you can tell I love their music and I was a big fan (especially being that they also played in Israel ;) :D ) and yes I too am annoyed at the past ten years of Metallica (and yes on what Ulrich said now), but I simply cant forget what they did before that.

In truth I don’t care what any band says, it’s the music that I care about and they have some of the best music, period!!

Shalom :D

I second that StarvingStudent47... I'd like a full refund on all the SH*T I bought...but what do you think the chances of us getting a refund are...Slim and....

I personally don't give a F*uck about the band anymore or LARS. The point of the post is not to promote Metallica or Lars...

I created the post in hopes that others would see this and see what others thought... I personally would like to see the bands website flooded with complaints...Maybe the military PX's will see this article and ban the selling of Metallica on military posts from now on.

So here's my 2 cents for LARS..http://www.rpi.edu/~quinoe/eq/images/funny_pics/iwantyou.jpg

What a fundemantal failure to understand copy right law.

If you walk by my car and I am playing the "howdy doody" theme song and you hear it can they sue you? You didn't pay for it, I did.

If I play a song at my party can I be sued, according to you I am "rebroadcasting".

Can we sue you for posting this silliness?

Metallica's getting old dude. They can't play the same way they used to, it's what happens when you get old. You can't expect the the same energy and the same style when the world's moving along.

And everyone's got their own taste in music so you can't say that so and so sucks ass and only Metal rules. I've been playing music more than half my life so i've grown up about itl. There's something to be picked up from different types of music and every musician in their genre has got its different talent about them.

Back to topic: I think Lars has every right to complain. Anyone does. But does it really matter?
