A single father of three fired for taking chocolate bars from a garbage bin at a Zellers store will get some Christmas cheer from a charitable organization.

Guy Masse, 47, had planned to give the discarded chocolate to his children, ages six, nine and 15, for Christmas.

Masse, who was on welfare and had been working at the store only for a couple of months, was first suspended and then fired.

"I think it's inhuman," Masse told CJAD radio station in Montreal of his dismissal.

Zellers has said Masse should have notified his superviser that he was taking the chocolate out of the garbage at the St-Hyacinthe store, about 50 kilometres east of Montreal.

Montreal's Sun Youth Organization said Tuesday that Masse's family will be provided for this Christmas.

"It's important to Sun Youth now that this family will have a Christmas that they deserve, food on the table and gifts for the kids," Sun Youth's Tommy Kulcyzk told CJAD.

Atleast will still have some decent people on the earth still. Good charitable group to provide for him everything he needs to have a great Christmas.

Wtf is happanig with society if food is thrown to the trash...Damn rich countries... Even in Poland its easier to throw away still god to eat food than give them to people who don't care a lot about "best before dates" passed by a few days...

most of the grocery stores here don't throw away too much, they donate alot of food every week to the local food banks so that people can get a little bit.

If our guys want to donate legaly they have to pay vat so its easier to dispose food or give illegaly but this is risky because tax guys are most cruel mob in the hood...

up here if a grocery store donates stuff to a place like the foodbank they get to claim it on their taxes and get a huge ass return at tax time.

Pretty much every shop/restaurant in the world has the same policy on food that has/will be thrown away. He should have asked.

If anyone here is from the NY area and has been in a Stew Leonards right before closing, you will see entire untouched food trays from their kitchen all dumped into a garbage can.

I would have hoped they donate it as it would be enough food to easily fill atleast 100 people. But then again they probably dont want to go through the hassle of it and the legal impact it could have. Imagine giving it away for free and someone gets ill from food poisoning that can be a major lawsuit; but then again it would have been the same food they would have served a paying customer.
